I have a R319DPS PCM reciever made by FUTABA with a 9C Super PCM radio also by FUTABA. Today I turned on my reciever ( for the first time on my SUNDOWNER ) and the right elevator went in the down position making a funny noise and I was not able to move it with my radio ?? The left elevator was functioning ok. My left aileron didnt do a thing didnt move and I was not able to move it with my radio. The right aileron moved up and down ok. The rudder appeared to be moving and working ok. The throttle seemed to be doing ok as well. OK guys what the hek are my doing here OR not doing ??

Have you read the manual on setting up and programming the radio? Are the servo's plugged into the correct port based on how the radio is programmed? take your time and read through the manual - you'll most likely find out what's wrong.

That didnt come out like I meant it.What Im asking is,are the elevator servos run off the same channel or do you have them mixed?Also,the ailerons,are you using mix or do you have a Y-harness tying them together?

Just skimmed thru my manual.Almost sounds like you have used the flaps and retract channels on the reciever for the elevator and ailerons.Did you try those switches on your radio when you turned it on?

No I have one elevator going into its own channel and the other in another channel. My ailerons are the same in their own channels in the reciever

Yep, sounds like a programming issue. For the ailerons, and assuming they are in channels 1 and 6 or 1 and 7, ensure you ACTivate the flapperon function in the advanced menu screen. As far as the dual elevator problem, i have no idea how to set that one up. I don't use that option (yet). I know there is a way to run the dual elevators so I turn that one over to someone with more experience with it.

Martin - did you turn on the radios BEFORE making the installation? Perhaps the servos had never been centered and are now jammed. Remove the output arms/wheels and see if the bare shafts will turn. Sound you heard may have been gear teeth stripping.[:@]

I dont like the sound of " Gear teeth stripping ". Well this is what I did as soon as my servos came in the mail I installed them on my plane. I screwed the servos in put the servo arms,horns etc on. Turned on my radio and reciever and there you have it. This centering stuff well I can honestly say that never happened. Oh Lord . . . maybe I should just stick to long distance running !!

Yeah you missed a step.

Prior to installing the control horns you should connect the receiver to servos, then turn on the transmitter, center it's controls and connect the reciever to the battery.

This will turn the servos to their center postion.

Then install the control horns and adjust w/o moving the servos if possible.



If you quickly turned off the plane after you first turned it on, your servos MAY be OK.

Do the above, then once you've hooked up the control linkages, move the sticks.

Make sure that the control surfaces move SMOOTHLY.

Next put a bit of resistance to the movement on each of the control surfaces as you move the sticks.

Do you feel the surface move without a sort of "hiccup" as it hits certain point.

If so the servos should be fine.


If however the control surface seems to "stick" at certain points when you put a bit of resistance on it, then you've more than likely stripped a tooth in the servo, and it needs to be replaced or repaired ( usually the more expensive ones can be repaired by installing replacement gears).

Nah, just need to go a tad slower. What servos do you have? Worst case scenario should be you may need some new gears and they are usually fairly cheap and easy to install.
