Worth the Wait

1 Attachment(s)
After soloing on my Alpha 40 about a month ago, I finally got up the nerve to try flying my Four Star 40 that I built from a kit last winter. I have spent the last couple of weeks trying to get the engine to run reliably (OS LA-46) and with some help from one of the guys at my field, it is running great. Last week, I had the guy who trained me take it up for a maiden, and he recommended some control adjustments.

Today I took a (really) long lunch break, and went to the field. After about 3 flights on my Alpha I broke out the Four Star and took it up. It is a blast to fly. It rolls SO much easier than the Alpha (no surprise). I was concerned that the LA-46 might be on the weak side, but it seems to have plenty of power.

Then I headed back to work so I could, as the guys at the field told me, "keep paying for thier Social Security".

Did everybody at work wonder what that smile was for all afternoon long??? ;) :D:D

I'll tell you what, you've discovered one of the best feelings in the world. Seeing a plane that you built yourself take flight for the first time. Good job!!!! [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

Well, it may not have been the first flight but it was the first on it for you.

That feeling is irreplacable, especially when you scratch build your own.

I agree with RCKen, it's a great feeling to see something you built yourself take to the air. I'm almost ready to solo soon, and I built my LT-40 from a kit. My instructor got the honors to take mine up for it's maiden, but it sure felt good to see it lift off and take to the air.
