CG Eagle II build wing tips
Ok ,
As the title says, I have a kit built Cal Goldberg EAGLE II and need to attach the plastic wing tips. My question is how do cover, paint or otherwise continue the color scheme I already have? The wings are already covered and now I need to attach the tips. Can I use the same Monokote or will the iron cause the wingtips to distort? Is paint an option and how can I get the best color match? What glue is best to use? I have some canopy glue if that is good. Can I cover then attach or should I glue and then cover? Looking for any suggestions and Thanks in advance. |
RE: CG Eagle II build wing tips
All I did was glue them on the wing without covering them. They look fine in my books. But that being said, it's my first build, although guys at the field say I did a nice job. Depending on your color scheme, the might provide a good accent.

Glue them on, Tape off so you won't overspray the wings, Most covering makers have paint to match.

RE: CG Eagle II build wing tips
Though I'm familiar with the material those tips are made from, generally with paint to match the covering you need to prime with a flat white primer before painting to get a good match. I've seen guys use red and gray primer and wonder why the color is darker than the covering. A good primer to use on plastic is the Tamyia flat white primer in the plastic model paints - it seems to be compatible with all the types of plastic used in plastic cars and planes. Use light mist coats since it's a lacquer based primer, but it covers great and leaves a fantastic base for paint. I use it exclusively now on my plastic models.

Hogflyer, I understand the use of different color primer coats affects the the final color of the topcoat. Lighter primers will produce a different shade on the topcoat than darker primers. It's all in the experimentation. Will the iron used for Monokote soften or even melt the plastic wingtips? |
RE: CG Eagle II build wing tips
Yes it will melt them.

I just put them on plain white.
We used gorilla glue.. canopy glue would also work. |
RE: CG Eagle II build wing tips
Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to go with the plain white for now.

I left them off.
