New pilot

Cliff notes: Got wing for old forgotten plane, found someone to teach me to fly it and thinking about getting heavier into the RC plane hobby.

I have had an [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HBZ3600]Aerobird[/link] sitting in the hall behind a door for like 2 years now. Got discouraged after 3 failed attempts at flying and left it to rot.

Well, today my LHS was having a race so I was down there watching and decided to pick up a new wing for the plane and a guy from the local flyer's club (who knew we had one) asked how i liked it. Told him about my experience so he told me to get my plane and meet him at the flying field and he would see what was going on why I could not get it up (no, there was no magic pill for this problem). Turns out that the plane was out of trim and he fixed it up and showed me a couple of nice tricks to get it in the air. What a blast.

Now I am looking forward to eventually building my own kit and putting it in the air. Talk about a sense of accomplishment. I think I am gonna start saving up some cash to get a good trainer and an AMA license.

The magic pill was getting some experienced help. Welcome back to the hobby and to RCU. :)

Here is a link to some nice trainers to consider

Naturally also discuss it with the instructors at your club before purchasing. It's your choice of course but a little guidance on choosing can't hurt. Same holds true when picking a radio and engine.

Thanks guys. Gonna go out to the local AMA field today to watch the big boys fly. My bank account says no, but I am going anyways.

Watching is cheap, getting hooked isn't. :D
