RE: Modified Trainer Shots
don't have the abillity to post pictures.....LT-40
1. removed all dyheidral from the wings 2. added winglets 3. shortened the span of the horizontal stab 3 inches 4. reduced the area of the vertical stab, but added a dorsal fin for a reduction of about 9 square inches 5. removed the wire main gear and added aluminum mains 6. kept the orginal LT-40 look of the decals, except went with green bottom and gray stripe people sure look at the airplane funny the first time they see it...I'll hear "what is that? kinda looks like an LT-40" |

I started with a Kadet Sr. from a kit. bought it used and went from there. It originally had a 50 Saito but then went to a .91 OS 4-stroke. Also my dad built up another wing for it with a lot less dihedral and gave it a little gull-wing effect, like a Stinson Reliant (that I will have one day). I LOVE this setup and recommend it for anyone learning to fly.

Avistar RTF:
1. Installed O.S. .46AX 2. Installed dual aileron servos (and turned throws WAY up) 3. Converted to taildragger. 4. converted it to fit convientlt into glove box for easy transport. |
RE: Modified Trainer Shots
Sorry about the crash....but how did it happen???
Farr301 |
RE: Modified Trainer Shots
turned the RTF into a kit huh?
|
RE: Modified Trainer Shots
Yeah we don't crash man we just " rekit "!!:D
|
RE: Modified Trainer Shots
Thats the best and most optimistic way to look at a crash if you bought an RTF or ARF or RTC (cover not crash). Now you have a chance to build up your kit back to RTF.
I can build... i just have no clue how to cover [X(] |
RE: Modified Trainer Shots
Kemo - same here, i can build and repair but my Covering always seems to be loose and wrinkled and looks shoddy

I purchased this plane in "crashed" condition. I am not sure of the brand. The covering was like shelf paper. Had to use
paint stripper in a spray can to get it off. Recovered in MonoCote. Running and Evolution .455 (a). Still have to put wing tips on. The plastic ones were broken, so I am making more. Maidened it yesterday. Flies great. |
RE: Modified Trainer Shots
Not much of a mod but bomb drops are great and fun.
|
RE: Modified Trainer Shots
yeh
do you guys have SLEC plastic bobms in america? its basically a servo which opens a catch and drops a bomb, on impact they open up and release their payload of flower, water or whatever you loaded. but the bombs are a push-fit design so you just reload, push them back together and away you go |
RE: Modified Trainer Shots
Well, it's kind of embarressing but....
I was just doing some lazy touch n' go's and practicing my approaches. I wasn't wringing it out like I usually do, the irony eh? When I was at my 270 deg for my next go for a touch n' go, I peeked down at my radio to check my timer (bone-head move I know). I mis-judged the distance of the plane from me and to a stationary structure (so I thought), when the structure just reached out and sheered the right wing panel completely off which caused the plane to continue on a death spiral 'Top Gun' flat spin into the ground. I have promised myself that I would repair the fuse and slap on a spare PT-40 wing I had built and give it to a guy who has been interested in RC for quite some time (after I test fly it of course). This repair will definately test my rebuilding and recovering skills. Right now I am repairing a Big Stik .40 which I tore up during a limbo contest in our latest fun-fly event. |
RE: Modified Trainer Shots
I have a Pt-40 too....how does yours fly?? My maiden wasn't a success..

I think it flew great for its purpose. I was able to fly nearly a whole flight inverted and do several basic aerobatics with it before it met its demise with another mobile inanimate object. The builer of the PT-40 crashed the first 3 times he tried to fly it and finally let me have a go at it once it got her fixed. It was the plane I pretty much tought myself how to fly on until she died. Once I get to my next duty station I will either build another one, or buy an Avistar to replace it. BTW, the wing I mentioned earlier was another wing kit he purchased for it; we built it wiht less dihedral and installed dual aileron servos. I had to modify the wing to fit the Avistar fuse by cutting away the TE of the wing where it sits in the fuse. |

RE: Modified Trainer Shots
Yes we have the same bomb drops in the US. And they are fun. I put paint balls in them and loosely put them together. This makes a cluster bomb.
