Engine cut???
 

How does this work. I want to get into combat eventualy and was wondering if there is a swich on the radio or what. All responses would help thanks.

I am pretty sure you will have to buy a combat plane. There is no switch to turn your trainer into a combat aircraft. Sorry.

I'm going to assume you mean an Engine Kill switch. There are two way to handle it. If your transmitter is a computer type, it most likely has a setting to set up the throttle to kill the engine. If you have one of the radios with manual trim, you just setup you throttle servo so that maximum trim to the off side fully closes the throttle when the stick is fully down. Most guys flying like this set up the throttle trim to mid point and then adjust the linkage for a good idle at full down on the stick. Then for the final kill, simply slide the trim down.

The computer setup works similuar, but the kill portion is linked to a switch that will cut the throttle even more, usually around 30% or so. The computer radios throttle trim only changes the low end, but the manual radios skews the full range of movement. I discovered this when I was on the buddy box and I was using an old radio hooked to my computer radio. Depending on the trim on the old, I could get either full throttle, or a slow idle but not both. I had one crash because of this I taxied back to the line and ask the instructor to kill the engine. He let loose of the trainer switch, but his throttle was full on and the plane lunged into the barrier and broke a wing.

throttle cut is what it is called..like Campgems said its a function on a computer transmitter....once the throttle is cut you can't restart in the air. so unless you want to do an intentional deadstick I can't see how this will help you in combat flying

Using the throttle is of course the easy way to kill the engine. ANYONE flying ANY RC wet-powered model should be able to shut the engine down at any time using the throttle.

Now in RC Combat, you will find that most competitors use a CL type needle-valve only for fuel along with a "pen-bladder" type tank. That is very HIGH pressure and the cut-off is simply a small servo that releases or moves a spring-like wire that compresses the fuel line to reduce the engine fuel supply sufficiently to kill the already maximum-lean engine.

You should attend a sanctioned RC Combat event and you can see a number of different arrangements. Nothing like association with the active to get an education. Hey, I did that just this past Sat. when I entered my first Club 40 Pylon event, Heck, someone has to be last. I use to fly a lot of Pylon back in the late '70s and early '80s.. That did NOT show this past Sat. [sm=cry_smile.gif]
