Nexstar Prop
I changed the prop on my nexstar and it seems to always come loose. I have used loctite....
I do have a question about the installation........ Is the prop suppose to touch the nipples/marks on the spinner backplate? Maybe I have it installed incorrectly...... So when you are looking at the prop from the front of the plane, the nipples will be touching the prop on the right side???? I wish I had a pic and the picture in the manual isn't the best. Thanks |
RE: Nexstar Prop
Hxman,
Yes, the prop should touch them. Those are alignment tabs so that the cutouts in the spinner match to the prop. As far as using locktite on the prop, you should NEVER do that. You will want to do that in the future. If the prop is coming off you simply aren't tightening the nut enough. If you are using one of those 4-way wrenchs that you use to remove the glow plug you will never get it tight enough to stay on. Get a good box end wrench for installing the prop nut. Use a rag or put on a glove to hold the prop with as you tighten it so it doesn't slip and cut your hand, and then use the box end wrench to tighten the nut. Don't worry about stripping it out because both the nut and the shaft are made out of steel and will handle it. Ken |

RE: Nexstar Prop
Be sure the nut is not bottoming on the threads and is going all the way on to the prop face. Did you change to a thinner hub prop?
If so this could be your problem. |
RE: Nexstar Prop
Yes I installed a MA 10x6....... Ever since this has been happening.....

RE: Nexstar Prop
For my suggestion I'm going to assume the plane has a .40 or .46 two stroke engine. Get a second prop washer to make sure the nut does not bottom out on the threads before the prop is tight. Hopefully you can find one at a hobby shop because shipping would cost more than the part if you have to mail order it. Based on the .40-.46 assumption you need a washer for a 1/4" shaft. Here are links to several that would fit:
