Tiger 60 changes
 

Im confused about the tiger 60. I've stopped constantly looking at planes and reading up on everything, since school started. But, i know for a fact the tiger 60 used to be a tri-gear. However, on tower hobbies, the picture for the ARF and kit are changes to taildraggers. Is this how they comes (well how the ARF comes and the kit has the build plans)? I'm confused because why did they change it, and on the required parts it still has 3 of the same sized wheels, which wouldn't be for a taildragger. How long ago did they change this? I'm guessing though, that is had something to do with when Great Planes bought Goldberg.

I just finished a new one in September.

It came with the gear shown in the picture below. Tricycle gear. The assembly book has a section at the back describing assembling it as a taildragger. That instructs you what parts to purchase to do so. The fuselage has gear support structure in it for the mains and tail wheel.

If they changed anything it was in the last couple of weeks.

a lot of kit planes have instructions for making a tale dragger.i built my tiger 60 several years ago and they had instructions for making it into a tale dragger also.

But, how come they changed the picture. They used to sell the plane with the landing gear from the wings, and the front one, but included plans to switch it. But, from the what i see from the picture, it looks like they make it include the taildragger style landing gear, and then i guess the plans to make tri-gear. What made them do this?

mesaflyer... I built mine from a kit as a taildragger. I put a .75 Tower hobbies 2 stroke in it and it flies awesome. Could even use a little more power. The .70 4st will fly it but it won't have a lot of extra power. It is a big heavy plane.

Simple. It's marketing of course. They find what the majority wants, in this case a tail dragger, and thats what they will show you on the picture. The Tricycle gear is still the standard for this plane but the ability to make it a tail dragger opens it up to a larger market. Personally I prefer the ground handling, roll out and landing of tail draggers better than tri-gear set ups.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to think about a big, light weight two stroke. I like that green. Very bright. My son is a little color blind and thinks it's brown.[X(]

Thanks Mr67Stang that makes sense. But, i've never bought this plane before, so what does it come with as far as landing gears? Like will it still come with just the wires that drop from the bottom of the wing? I think is kinda weird to have the picture one way, but the included landing gear to be different. Usually i look at the picture to see what im getting, and that just seems misleading.

I'm almost finished building my kit. I'm building as a tail dragger. However, the kit comes with tricycle gear, not tail dragger gear. The last page of the instructions tell you what you need to do to make it a tail dragger.

I had the tail feathers pinned in place. Since then, I've pulled them off and epoxied the horizontal stab in place. Tomorrow I'll do the vertical, then by Monday night, it'll be finished!!

I put an asp 91 on mine, I also beefed up the vertical stab, as recommended with 1/2 triangle stock at the base.

The picture seems to have changed ever since Great Planes acquired Goldberg. The specs still say tri gear.
Like mr67stang said it's most likely a marketing tactic as the general concensus leans toward taildraggers.

I built the Tiger 60 in January and i have 50+ flights on it. Clipped wing and taildragger. excellent plane
very gentle, with great aerobatic qualities. I used the OS .61 SF engine.

I've recently built a Tiger 60 and a Tiger 2 both of those were ARF's and come with the trike hardware. The box that each one came in had a picture of one set up as trike on one side and on the other side it had a picture of of one set up as a taildragger. I built both of these as tail draggers but did not get the Goldberg conversion kit. You can peice your own hardware together for a good bit less than the kit from Goldberg. And I like a 91 two stroke on the big bird and a 55 two stroke on the smaller one.

The one I mentioned in the 2nd post, the one that came with tricycle gear, came with tricycle gear and that was about 3-4 weeks ago.

What do you plan to do, build it tricycle or taildragger? Whatever you actually care to do can be easily done. If you are worried about getting parts for the tricycle gear and then having to pay for parts for the other, call whomever you plan to buy the thing from and ask them about the situation. 3-4 weeks ago Tower was shipping ARFs like Tower describes in their detailed description. Tricycle geared. A LHS might make a deal with you to discount the conversion parts if you need them. When they get the box, you can open it and see which parts are in it. And pickup the conventional gear parts then.

None of us are going to know the motives behind someone else's advertising. Tower's ad detail says it comes with tricycle. If it doesn't, you can return it no questions asked. But you can call them right away and tell 'em they shipped you something that doesn't match the product detail description and it's almost a sure thing they'll make it good. Or you could talk to them when ordering it and tell them you want the ARF that is pictured in their ads, if that's what you want, and for the advertised price. And see what they say and do.

But if you only want to know somebody's motives, you really need to ask those people.

if you have any length of building experience, I have converted many kits to tale draggers and the cost has been $15 or less, unless you get fancy with your hardware.da Rock hit it right on the head with advertising.its like things on the menus at most fast food places you hardly get what’s on the picture but its there to make your mouth water. kits with the extra instructions for modifications they will have an additional parts needed line in most cases and that’s how they get by with advertising pictures of what they can look like.
