Super skybolt arf help
 

so im finally ready to put my skybolt arf together, and i cant find my ca hinges. There is this foot long piece of white fiber glass looking piece of paper, but it isnt pre- cut with the hinges. Anyone know if this is my ca hinges? how can i get some from great planes?

The white fiberglass looking material is your CA hinges. You will need to cut them into 3/4"x1" pieces and then use them in the assembly as indicated in the instructions. This happens sometimes with ARF's like this. Instead of supplying pre-cut hinges they will simply put the whole sheet in. Who knows, low payed factory worker got lazy I guess. :eek:

that's exactly what is in my SS kits........i went to the LHS and bought the GP precut hinges...........saved me some time and the material feels a tad thicker.
i'm sure the material from the kit is fine, but i got lazy just like the factory worker Ken mentioned:D:D:D

you could take a piece of papaer the same length and width, mark out the hinges first to see if it lays out to give you enough, then cut the supplied piece.

I've dealt with these sheets many times. More than likely it is 2" wide. Draw a line down the middle of the strip. Then draw lines across the strip every 3/4". Then cut the hinges out with a pair of scissors. Should only take you about 5 minutes to cut your hinges out. No big deal at all.

This is usually what GP supplies and there is more than enough. You'll need about 21 hinges total (3 per surface - 4 ailerons, 2 elevators, 1 rudder) and If I'm not mistaken, they give you 2 sheets.

You really don't even have to measure anything. Just cut the strip in half lengthwise, then lay one half on top of the other and cut strips that are about 3/4 of the width.

These things are very strong, so if you're off by a little bit it's not going to hurt anything

After you cut them to size (Great Planes supplies plenty of material, you will probably have some left over) with a pair of scissors nip off all the corners. That makes them easier to get into the hinge slots.

http://www.radiosouthrc.com has their own brand CA hinges that I really like. I suppose a CA hinge is a CA hinge but I've had excellent luck with these over the years.

Also im going to use the os 70 four stroke that i got from tower, is this a good engine for this plane? i see alot of people using the 91

The airplane was originally designed for a 60, not a 45. It's also a biplane and they wind up using more power at low speeds because of their extra drag.

The 70FS would be an engine that would pull the plane, but lots of people wouldn't use the term "good".

Mine flies good on an OS61FX.

I've got a few 46AXs and an OS70FL. They perform about the same. I've never even considered putting either of them into my Skybolt. And now that I have considered it, I can say without reservation that I wouldn't put either in and expect good performance.

But your 70FS engine in WM's 40 Ultimate would be a good combination.

I agree, you'll be lucky to get much out of the Skybolt with anything smaller than a 91 4-stroke
