I am new and have been flying for a few months. I have an Airtronics vg400, but would like my next investment to be a radio that will last my for a long time as I progress through the hobby. I have 3 planes, the battery cyclers and a myriad of accessories that all have Airtronic connectors. What good radio should I get that I won't have to change all of my radio and battery connectors. The guys at the club all have Futaba and JR so they are steering me in that direction so that they can help me. Any thoughts?

As far as Airtronics I'm afraid I can't help you. But I strongly recommend the Futaba T6XAS 6-channel computer radio. It has everything you could possibly need unless you get into serious giant scale, etc flying. It holds 6 models, whick is just enough for me.

Check out the RD6000 Super and the new RD8000 from airtronics.

If you have airtronics then you can get either a higher model airtronics or JR and you can use all the recievers in your planes because they are both Positive shift and will work together, Futaba and Hitec are both on the Neg. shift and cant be used with airtronics or JR recievers.
Hope this helps Dauntae |

Please excuse the buttin' in, but does that mean that Futaba and Hitec components can be interchanged?

you can use futaba and hitec RX and TXs interchangably yes...
servos are not brand dependent so those are interchangable also (I think you might have to rearange the pins on the airtronics though) also hitech makes RXs that are compatable with JR/airtronics TXs. also hitec makes the spectra 7 that can transmit on positive or negative shift, allowing you to use almost any PPM (fm) RX on the market so you might want to check that radio out. |

Boy, if you have airtronics and don't want to change it all, your stuck going that way or JR like stated. Otherwise you can go futaba and not be interchangable with that one and change the rest out over time. Sounds expensive. I always suggest Futaba, but in your case, I would consider sticking with Airtronics. They have some good systems and you wouldn't have to switch out all your other stuff.

Hello Thecelt.
I wold suggest going with your club members recommendations. Why change to some thing new with out the knowledge of how it works. Take advantage of your club members experience. Regards Crossed Thumbs |
