Servo performance after a crash?
 

Just wondering what everyone's experience has been with servos that have been in a bad crash?
My plane was completely totalled out this weekend by someone, and one of the aileron servos was ripped apart from the aileron extension. ( I tied an overhand knot where the extension joined with the servo lead) Also, the servo control rods had the ailerons still attached to them. Completely ripped the aileron itself from the wing. Ailerons were hanging from both servos.
The reason I ask, is because a while back I had a throttle servo acting weird on me, that had also been in a crash.
I have tested all of the servos and they seem to have good torque and response, but I don't want to risk sending them up in a new plane if they are at high risk. I am using Futaba S3004's in a Hangar 9 Aresti with CA hinges.

I've never had a problem. If they are physically in good shape - no gear damage, etc, they should be fine. But if you wanna be really safe, just save them to put in an older plane.

Guys,
Also one other thing. Is it safe to use EZ connectors with blue loc tite on the servo horn itself? I haven't had any come loose yet, but was wondering if anyone else has. I think I may go to using strapers. They look more secure.

after a crash I test and cycle the servo,also look at the gears,if all the test are good then I use again. I have used the EZ connectors on 120 size planes and smaller with out any problems,but hearing about others crashing I now use them on the throttle only.

Listen closely to the servo for grinding noises. If there are any, than the servo gears are stripped. Typical gear sets are easy to change and go for around 4 to 6 dollars.

I've never had an easy connector fail either, but still only trust them for throttle and rudder. I like good quality metal clevises on elevator and aileron controls. Just my preference.

I've never had a problem with easy connector either. I have them on a few of my planes (all 40-sized planes) and I make a habit to check them every couple of weeks. I have heard that the easy connector will usually pop off of the servo arm before the set screw slips.
I've been using the Great Planes "Faslink" pushrod connectors and I really like them.

If you have any questions about the servo, send it to futaba to be checked. They are good and quick. Takes all the worry out. I use yellow connectors to lock the extension to the ail servo. I think they are sullivan or rocket city. Can't remember.

EZ connectors, a huge no no. Have seen too many come loose. Use a Z bend or a positive lock that can not come off. Not worth risking a plane or someone that it might hit.
