Help with the new plane, please!
 

So, I picked up an H9 Pulse XT PNP yesterday. Yay me! [8D]

I let the Rx battery charge overnight, and hooked up the receiver today. The elevator and ailerons are okay, but the throttle and rudder are reversed. What gives?

The servos are installed the way they are pictured in the manual. How do I fix this?

Your radio should have a servo reverse function built in for just such an occasion. Bust out your transmitter manual and find those switches!

I'm using the JR S400 Tx that came with my trainer. I don't believe it has that functionality.

Am I screwed?

EDIT: I checked the manual, and there are reverse switches hidden in the back. The down side is, that means I have to reset the switches any time I want to switch between planes. Not the end of the world, but still a bummer. A much bigger bummer if I forget to do it!

If you forget to do it and don't check control movement direction before flying, THEN you're screwed. :(

Turns out those two servos are reversed on the trainer. I put all the switches back to the "normal" positions, and we are ready to rock.

You will find servo directions different in about every plane you own. This is where a good computer radio with model memory comes in handy.

maybe instead of the pulse you should have gotten a spektrum radio..:D then you would never have to worry about changing something each time you swap to a different plane as it has a 20 model memory! just a suggestion, good luck with the pulse man, i am finally making the step up to aerobatics now, with a hangar 9 twist, it will be my 4th plane, my first obviously a trainer (hobbico superstar) next a fairly aerobatic spad, that i never could get balanced properly so it was a fight to even keep it in the air and then a h9 cessna that flew amazing now onto aerobatics for me hopefully i will transition as quickly as i got into the cessna.. i think fighting that spad really taught me a lot as far as reflexes go but i am still curious as to how well i will be able to handle a sporty plane.. in realflight i can do whatever i want with the yak, i even broke off a wing and flew through the barn in the black rock map (have video proof!) but dont know about real life ya know? i get sooo nervous in real life as opposed to real flight :)

And you still might have to reverse servos on every plane. But you do that as you put each plane on the transmitter and then when you go to that plane it remembers where you have it set. You don't have to do it but once. But you still will have to reverse some servos. It is alot easier also.

Whan I was flying a Futaba 6DA transmitter I made a little diagram of the DIP switches and mixing pots and I drew in the positions for each model on small cards. I kept these in my flight box. When I brought out a model I pulled the little card and set the switches and trim pots.

The hard part was setting up each plane at neutral trim. Back in the bad old days when you had to adjust the linkages instead of just the electronic end points and sub trims. ;-)

I had this exact issue, with the same radio. My Alpha 40 RTF came with this radio, and then I built a Four Star 40, and bought an identical radio for it. I set up all of the servos in the Four Star to match the Alpha, so I could use either TX for either plane.

Then I put together a Slow Stick using a GWS receiver on the same channel. That's when I learned the throttle servos in the glow planes were backwards, but on an electric, you can't reverse the throttle. I had to dedicate on of my TX's to the Slow Stick, and one to the glow planes.

When I built my Bel Air 40, I broke down and bought the JR Sport SX600 for $50 more. This low end computer radio lets you store 10 models with all of their trims, reversing, flaperons, expo, etc., so I am back to having one box that will fly all of my planes.

My first couple of times switching between the trainer and Four Star, I forgot to switch models, which was no biggie, except for some minor trim issues, but it would be catastrophic for the Bel Air, which has dual wing servos. I have now gotten into the habit of checking the model each time I start a plane, so I think I'm good.

This radio is probably the cheapest way to go. It provides basic functionality for getting 10 planes programmed and flying. It does not have some features, such as channel mixing or a flight timer, but considering it was only about $50 more than a flight pack with no TX, I think it was a pretty good buy.

I do plan on upgrading the radio, but not until I buy the next plane. ;)

For now, the S400 will serve it's purpose.

When you bought the radio for your Pulse, did you just buy a flight pack with no TX?

When I built my second plane, I went to buy a flight pack to use the same S400 TX. The flight pack was $99 plus a crystal, or about $109. A whole S400 radio, including TX and crystals was only $119, so I had my LHS order me one on the same channel as my trainer radio. They basically give you the TX for $10, which you can either dedicate to a specific plane, use as a buddy box, use as a flight sim controller, or donate to your club as a buddy box. I ended up donating my free AMA buddy box to my club, since I now have three other JR Sport boxes and didn't really need the fourth.

Anyway, it sounds like your all set now. Good luck with your Pulse XT. I hear they are great.
