Freedom 20 Vert. Stab problem?
Hi guys, I finally got my Carl Goldberg Freedom 20 that was already built. I noticed as I was cleaning it up, that the Vertical Stabilizer was free to move, it was like it torqued with rudder input. I can wiggle it pretty good, but at the same time it is pretty sturdy at the base. Also, I can pick the plane up by the tail and it will hold, just wiggles quite a bit and all of the framing underneath the monokote looks good and no broken wood....just wanna know if it is normal.
Thanks, Jarred |

That is really something that can't be answered on the internet, it really needs someone to look at it in person. Take it to a local club or to your local hobby shop.

That does not sound normal to me. Take Missileman's advice and take it to someone more knowledgeable than you and get it checked out. You don't want the stab coming off in flight.

The vertical stab is assembled from several pieces - sounds like a broken glue joint.

It is a weak spot on this plane. Now that it is broken, it must be fixed before you fly it. You'll need to strip away some of the covering material so you can get at the joint, see where it is broken, and glue it. It would be good to strengthen it with some triangle stock at the base of the fin. Don't add big pieces or globs of glue--you don't want to add significant weight back there. Jim
