using Hobbylite or another balsa filler?
I don't know if everyone uses this stuff or not, I never have, but the plane I am working on now I want to really get an excellent finish. What do you guys recommend to use as a balsa filler? Is there something better than the 'hobby shop stuff'???
Thanks a lot! |

I use the same material, but from the paint department of Home Depot or Lowes. Cost about half as much. Red Devil One Time ready mixed spackling is the product I have on the bench now but there are many, just be sure it is the light weight spackling and not the stuff that is like drywall paste.

The stuff from the LHS is really light, also it sands really well. I like it.

Regular house-hold latex paint and micro-balloons work great. Very easy to sand.

I like red devil too. Works great.

hint.....
Both the Red Devil, and the hobby shop fillers, tend to dry out in the container after time, and as product level becomes lower in the container. I keep a spray bottle with water and a VERY fine mist setting handy in my shop. When I am finished with the filler..... I give the surface in the jar a short blast of water mist. Very little now!! I also mist it into the cap. It will bead up there, and sprayed both places, it keeps my filler product "fresh as new". ....lownslo....
