tx battery pack

Just picked up a sweet futaba 9cap. What tx battery are you all running in yours over the stock pack? Where do I get it?

Why would you even bother messing with it??? It will never die during a days flying.

What's the mili amp rating of the stock pack?

RE: tx battery pack

Mine came with a 700 mAh pack. I now use an 1100 mAh pack that I bought from a fellow at a swap meet. He has a small business making and selling packs and other RC accessories. Sometimes the 700 pack would run down during a long day at the field, especially with two planes. I'll try to find his card.

You can use packs from different sources, as long as you're sure it's 9.6 volts and the right shape. I have bought the Tower Hobbies brand packs and soldered on a Futaba connector. Or the safest way is to buy a genuine Futaba brand pack.

My 9cap had the 700ma pack. After a few months i had to replace it cause it would stay above 9.6 volts for 22mins.Sucks when your at the field bright an early with for models that your wanting to fly till dark. So i ordered a 1450ma NIMH an a Triton 2. Now all is well. I can fly all day long now. 15-20 flights sometimes more. have to burn at least a gallon of fuel on a pretty day.

P.S after cycling the 700ma battery with the triton it would only store an average of 375ma. After bringing it down an an charging it 5 times it holds 735ma. I use it from time to time just so it will stay in the rotation an not sit there an drain out. Its a good battery

http://www.hangtimes.com get a NO BS Batteries transmitter pack. I had the same problem, get one or two good flights on my glider and the stock pack was almost shot. The 2000mah pack lasts me all weekend now.

The Futaba stock packs have been excellent for me. All mine have lasted over 6 years and are still going. Replacement packs from Sanyo only last 3 years in my experience.

I replaced my stock pack with a 1450 mAh NiMh square pack. My dad runs a 1600 mAh NiMh square pack in his. Both are the hydramax brand, and last all day without quick charging.

I've got two 9cap's and my stock battery and the replacement nicad would not hold up well. I found some NI-MH packs on ebay and I am very happy with them. What I like best is that I can leave them in the car for a couple weeks and they still have a full charge. I think I was killing the Nicads with topping them off before every flying day. Look at Ebay item 270193458881. I bougt two, not four, but the price is right and the shipping is quick. The only down side was that the end is a universal end and it won't fit the 9CAP socket. I cut the cable off a couple scrap batteries I had and soldered them to the leads from these batteries and it works well. I first though of going to a Li-po replacement, but the cost of extra chargers, as well as the cost of the battries nixed that idea.

Don

PS, I have no intrest in the seller above other than having purchased two of the packs and liking them. Your mileage may vary.

I have a 2100 NiMh pack from Batteries America, have never been able to kill it in one day yet. Capacity is starting to drop now so will need a new one soon. I had six or seven Planes programmed on my 9c as soon as I got it so i needed something good. I may only have the one Tx with me so it covers all my flying and the stoch pack just doesn't cut it on a long day. Plus it will last several shorter days.

RE: tx battery pack

Just be aware that your wall-wart charger may not fully charge that battery. Normally, people put the batteries on charge overnight. The typical charger may have a mah charging capacity which will take considerably longer than the what you were used to with the standard battery.

For instance, the 9CAF radio comes with a wall wart charger that has a 70 mah capacity (yeah, I looked it up). This means, in ideal conditions, this will charge 70 milamps per hour. A 1500 milamp battery will take almost 22 hours to charge, but in reality, it will be more like 24 or 25 hours due to charger overhead and losses due to heat.

Make sure you know this and allow plenty of time to charge these batteries, not just overnight, but for a full day and night cycle.

I'd be very wary of flying a NiMH pack which had been sitting for a couple of weeks. The battery experts claim NiMH have a higher internal resistance than NiCD and lose as much as 10% of their charge each day.

That said, I bought a new 9CAPs system last Christmas and upgraded to a 1850mAh NiMH pack in the TX and RX.

Batteries seem to be an issue with many pilots. Both for RX-TX and electric powered aircraft. They tend to be somewhat mysterious with all the different ratings (mah, C, voltage, cells, and so on). If you ever get it all sorted out, tell us all how you did it.. ;):D

RE: tx battery pack

What I keep on telling myself is:

voltage = tank
mah rating = amount of fuel in the tank.

With gas prices these days, I'm figuring the more gas I can give my tx and rx the better and longer they'll run. :D

I replaced my original 700 with a 1100 mah nicad (Sanyo cells) from [link=http://www.radicalrc.com/shop/?shop=1&cat=20&cart=794691]Radical RC[/link]. model # RRC08N1100S-TX. Nice pack. Well balanced. $30.00 with Futaba connector plus $3.00 shipping.

Nothing wrong with that, Housedad. I went a bit further with a 1650 mah from Radical RC. No particular reason except for a higher capacity battery. It just takes longer to charge once I fly with it about 10 + times.. :D

When I first got my 9c I thought I had to replace the stock battery. I have found it lasts longer than my 6exas and that I can fly all day(3 planes 3 flights each) and then use it on the sim. I'd see how much flying time I get before buying a new pack. The 9c is pretty nice isn't it.:D
Dan.

RE: tx battery pack

danny 31292 has a good point. Use your pack for a few flights then cycle it and see how much capacity is left. I think you will be surprised. I get about 2 hours of ON time from my Tx using a 500 mAh pack. The disadvantage of higher capacity packs is that you will need to replace them more often. The lower capacity packs are more robust in my experience.

I almost bought a new pack before I even tried the old one too. I was also suprised it lasts so long since I got the radio used and it was the the older 9cap non super. Like I said before I can fly all day and be on the sim all week.

Yes, the 9Cap is the bomb. Haven't really starting playing with it yet, but will begin programming tomorrow (day off). Have lots of planes to put into it. :D

Just a word of caution re using NiMh bats in the 9 tx.

The time between the low bat alarm going off and the tx going dead can be VERY SHORT. In my case less than 2 minutes.

RE: tx battery pack

Well, the fix for that is obvious. Don't let it get down that far.
