kit tools
 

I have recently traded for a top-flite corsair .60 kit that is partially assembled, I was wondering what tools and equipment would be needed to complete a kit. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Good grief,what a question!
The first kit I built, a Headmaster Sport 40, the only tools I had were an X-Acto knife, a hacksaw and a sanding block, and those were sufficient to make that, or any airplane kit. I've since then bought a lot of other tools to do many of those jobs more quickly or more easily.
Did you just post your question to start another thread, or do you have some specific phase of the building process that worries you?

I guess what I will do is take pictures of what it looks like now, where as it is partially completed, and that should give everyone a better idea of what I am looking at.

I have built a couple of the Top Flight planes and the list Missileman referenced, is pretty much what it takes to build one,along with a flat building surface.

if this is your first TF kit then I highly recomend reading the manual front to back several times to familarize yourself with the construction process, there fairly strait forward, but there are many steps to follow,and you want to follow them in order, there are many reasons for this mainly some small steps set up main building sections.

what I do that is helpfull is use a yellow highlighter to mark the steps that have been completed, in the boxes at each step,if your plane has some steps done you might want to review all the construction steps to make sure none were omitted by the previous builder,and then procede to finishing your model.

If this is your first kit, STOP! Put the Corsair on the shelf and get something easier to learn on.

I was thinking the exact same thing Doc. Rmprob, this is an advanced kit build and should probably be tackled after a few other kits are under your belt. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but if you've never built a kit before this isn't the one to start with ...

If you haven't done so already, check out some of the Corsair build threads here on RCU or on RCSCALEBUILDER or RCWARBIRDS - you'll get a good feel for some of the steps & tools that others have taken.

here are the current pictures, based on the progress already completed when I got it, I think I may be able to complete it, Please honestly let me know if I should attempt or shelf it!

I guess I should tell you that the wings,elevators and others are not attached, just sitting there.

I don't know what your flying experience is, but one thing you might consider is to build a kit like the Sig 4 Star. It's a fairly straight forward build that would give you a tail dragger that with some added weight would be a reasonable trainer for the Corsair for both building and flying.

Quick question? Is this your first model? If so, i too would second the opinion that you need some experience first before attempting to fly it..

If you have never sheeted a plane before get a big trash bag:eek: The hardest part of the F4u is the sheeting of the wings[:@] All you have to do is make one mistake and all is lost. Do as others have posted put it back and find a build that you can get experience on then go for it. A small mistake can cause a big problem. War Birds are unforgiving as all hell[:@]
