Are dogs allowed at your flying field?

Here is a picture of SkyHigh Bev with her little doggie in her knapsack.

I'd look pretty stupid trying to fly my plane with a big Saint Bernard hanging out of a duffel bag strapped to my back!

Last time I was trying to maiden a new plane the owners dog at the field was jumping all over me wanting to play causing me to about lose my plane.

Dogs are lovely but I can see how they could be distracting. Doesnt seem to be bothering her though.

Nothing wrong with dogs at the field, it's the owners you have to watch for. As long as they control the animal, I don't have a problem with it. What's worse is a parent who brings their small child and lets THEM run loose. I once had to stop a child from jumping over the planes parked in the pit area.

I was in England on business a few years back. One of the guys brought his whole family, including the wife, kids, and dog. One of the kids fell on the wing of another person's plane pretty much destroying the thing. Was not a good scene.

there are many dogs at our field. A lot of the guys bring thier "children" or "best friends" with them on a regular basis. Mostly they hang out at our FBO (pavillion) and get lots of attention from the gang. Some have been in the pits (always under control and leashed under a table)
I agree that we have had far more trouble with parents not controling their own kids in the FBO and occasionally in the pit area (where they should only be if learning how to fly and actively doing so...ie. radio in hand and in pilot box) And Dr1Driver, we have had to stop kids from jumping over planes as well. I'm sure the parents don't want the bill to replace one!
All in all, our furry children are well behaved and seem to enjoy coming out to the field.

A guy in my last club brought a young boxer to the field. It got loose and took his Stearman down just as it rotated up. Looked like a stinger missile intercept! Luckily it got a hold of the upper wing and missed the engine.

Last time that puppy played at our field! Jake, my Kerry Blue, sits in the shade and hopes for dropped munchies in the pavilion. He's much more interested in the people than the models.

My father sometimes brings his two shelties when he comes out to the field. He always keeps them either in the car with the windows open for ventilation or leashed to the pit benches when he's not walking them around. The funny thing about it is, they bark like mad when he flies any of his planes, especially electrics, but they don't bark at anyone else's planes.[sm=confused.gif] There are a couple of guys in the club who do the same, and it hasn't caused any problems. The real problems arise when the general public wanders into our field (it's visible from the road and adjacent to park land) with their unleashed mutt running wild on the runway chasing planes or helis, thinking its funny.:eek: It's always fun to have to scream at those idiots, and they never have ANY clue why letting their hapless cur chase after a flying meat cleaver is a bad idea...

Last 3 dogs a guy in our club had that would bother the planes and the people flying them all were hit by cars passing by.

Keep your doggies on a leash if you really love them!

One of the guys at our field brings his Golden Retriever " Scratch" from time to time. Scratch is well behaved and knows the difference between a crashed plane and one that has landed properly. In fact, she runs over to the plane that crashed and waits there for the owner of the plane to come over and collect the pieces... That beats having to go search in the tall grass.

I like dogs and everything but they should be strictly controlled at the field. I have seen dogs step through wings and we had a anice friendly dog bite a member in the face when he was startled by an engine that started up wide open and startled the normally docile dog into a nasty act. IT is not worth the liability to ones plane or the clubs insurance for an accident with a dog. Yes I am a club officer and that does color my opinion of this matter. With the way things are a visitor and his kids could come to the field and someones dog bites the kid and the next thing you know the club is being sued for allowing a non members dog to bite a non members child because you never prevented the dog from running loose at the facility.

Bet you wouldn't care about the plane if it was the dog's owner (above) jumping all over you wanting to play:):).

Hers doesn't seem to be causing a problem for her or anyone else. There are a couple of guys who bring their dogs occasionally, they are well trained and don't get in the way, so nobody says anything. We don't have a hard and fast rule prohibiting dogs; so far it hasn't been a problem, and most of our members would be considerate enough not to bring one if it was a potential hazard.

Took our dog to the field a couple of months ago. Sam is a 40Kg lab and right now is way too young to be trusted to run loose, so I kept him on a leash (which was something of an impediment to my flying[:o])

One of the guys sugggested that I use a gadget he has that screws into the grass and secure the leash to this. He assured me it was strong enough to hold the dog. So, Sam was duly secured well away from the planes with access to shade and water.

All was well until a kangaroo decided to detour through the area where the dog was secured. (We have a large population of Roos that inhabit out field, somewhat surprising as we share it with the gun club! The roos often seem to be showing their opinion of less than perfect landings).

Anyhow, if there is one thing that Sam really likes to do it is to chase roos and wallabies. I'm not sure he would know what to do if he caught one, but it's unlikely as they easily outpace him! Sam took of in hot pursuit of said roo, only to come to a juddering halt when he got to the end of the leash! Fortunately the securing whatsit held, though it was a somewhat different shape after being used as an arrester hook.

After this I decided that future vists to the field should be deferred until Sam gets a little older (he's approaching 3). Can't really see me with him in a bag like Skyhigh Bev's dog.

I work in an art gallery part time, and we allow dogs. The dogs are always more well behaved than the kids :/

My Jack Russell Zoie is a regular at the field. She runs the rodents out of the mower shed and kills snakes. The club President at the time told me to shoot her. so I did... pointed my finger at her and said "bang". She gets a treat after she plays dead. She rides in my lap when I mow.

And no one has confused any of my covering jobs for "ART";);)LOL

A man had a very talented dog, he said this dog would actually talk. He took it to a talent scout and wanted to have the dog perform on late-night television.

So, he made an appointment with the talent scout and showed up on time. They sat together quietly, in the waiting room for about a half hour when the scout called them in.

"So, you say your dog talks, right? Ok.. let's here it".

The guy looks at the dog and says, "Spot, what is the skin on the side of a tree called?"

The dog looks at him and says, "Bark".

The scout looks at them both and says, "Ok.. get outta here".

"No, no, wait.. Spot, what is a model plane that you don't have to build called?"

The dog says, "ARF".

"OUTTA HERE NOW!!!"

"No.. no wait.. he's much better than that". So, he looks at the dog and says, "Who held the home-run record in the Americal League for many years?"

The dog looks at him and says, "Ruth".

The talent scout actually throws them both out.

As they are walking away, the dog looks at the owner and says, "DiMaggio?"
