rudder hinge
 

i recently purchased a used cap 580 online and when i got it the rudder was pulled back from fin and the blue tabs were exposed but not hurt should i just put some ca on them and push them back or do they need replaced

put some ca on them and push back in and pin the hinges depending what type of hinge.. If I remember they are of the robart finger hinges if so you can use epoxy resin .. Remove ruder hinges and drip epoxy resin into the holes and place hinges back in

Even better since they pulled out would be to dampen the holes in the balsa and use Gorilla Glue. It expands and makes a much better grip.

In reply to joco: If you do use CA don't put the CA on before you put the hinge on. The CA will most likely dry before you get it into the right position and it won't soak in the wood properly.

thanks acarter that was really a good lesson in installing new hinges the hinges that i am having trouble with are just pulled out a little i guess they didnt put enough ca on them from the start ive never installed any before so im kinda leary of doing it now but i guess im gonna just turn the rudder up on end and push it in close to the block and apply the ca ......would this be the way you would do it?

I am sorry but I have to adamately dissagree with the previous replies.
CA hinges have a coating on them that absorbs and bonds to the CA, when a CA hinge pulls loose it usually results in this coating being pulled off the hinge material. You will never get a good bond with that old hinge.
I would run a hobby knife along both sides of what is left of the hinge to compltetely remove them and install new hinges.
