More tail feather trouble...
 

the tail feathers on my trainer keep breaking at the root, and I don't want to replace anything, anyone know what to do to reinforce them? Also, I go flying tomorro because my radio came back.

The rear of the fuselage breaking and the whole tail falling off? Or, just the vertical rudder? Ross

Just the horizontal stabilizor. Its still attached but its loose and when I use the elavator it bends a little.

Put a flying wires brace kit or something similar on it. This will prevent future accidents.

We don't know what trainer it is. It may be a foamie electric or something like that for all we know. It would be nice to get more information before making any recommendations.. don't cha think?

I have no clue except that its a typical glow trainer, I got it used.

This might fix you up.
You could get some 3/8 or 1/2" triangle stock to beaf it up. Mark where the reinforcement will be glued at the root and remove a small area of covering so you can epoxy the triangle stock into the corners. You want a wood to wood joint.
Youll need to do this on the top and bottom of the stabs.

OK A "TYPICAL GLOW TRAINER" is a balsa frame with monocote covering. Usually a Kadet, Serioretta, or an Eagle 2.

If the H Stab is loose and flexing then the easiest fix is to;
1. buy some 1/4" triangular stick,
2. cut it to fit the length of the H Stab where it meets the fuse,
3. Remove the covering around the point of contact (all four points),
4. Glue the Triangular stock into place on the H Stab (top - bottom - both sides)
5. Recover the area to prevent fuel contamination.

This will strengthen the H Stab at minimal cost and weight. :D

If it's bending when pressure is applied you have probably broken/cracked the main structure of the stabilizer (equivilent to a wing spar). Band-Aid fixes are at best temporary. Go ahead and order your next plane because this one will be crashing beyond repair soon.

You need to replace the stabilizer and do this right.

I disagree, there are ways (listed above) that you can fix the stab that it will actually be stronger than it ever was. And if you decide to add the wire brace kit after you fix it, it's almost impossible for it to break again from in flight stress.

I reinforced the frame for the time being as I am going flying today, it seems good for now, still working on it before i go, thanks.[8D]
