realflight g3.5 controller problem
Hey guys, this is my first post. Anyway, just ten minutes ago I was flying an Eclipse foamie on my realflight g3.5 sim, when the throttle control,[left stick], started to stick every once in a while and then it sort of got jammed. It will still move left and right for rudder, but throttle will only go from about half to full throttle. It is like something is stopping it from about halfway down. I really don't know what to do and I don't want to force it, in a risk of breaking it. I guess if all else fells I could try taking it apart, but that will be my last option. Can I buy a separate controller if I have to. Would the new controller for g4 work with g3.5. This really sucks because I didn't even do anything; I was just flying around. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: realflight g3.5 controller problem
Sounds like you may wish to call Great Planes and see if they can fix it for you. Opening the transmitter box (controller) may void the warranty. Call them first.

RE: realflight g3.5 controller problem
I don't think opening the radio will void the warranty, because you have to open the box if you would want to take the ratchet of for better heli flight. Your best option is to send it back, I sent mine back a while ago and they were pretty quick. But if you like to take things apart then you could probably find the problem.

RE: realflight g3.5 controller problem
that stinks
my left stick messed up last night. its like a spring let go and now the stick will not go back to center, still works but alot harder to fly. i am going to take it apart and fix it my self. |

thanks for the replies

RE: realflight g3.5 controller problem
I had the same thing happen to mine. I contacted GP and sent it back and they fixed it for free. Give them a shot--great people. Don't take it apart until you talk to them.

RE: realflight g3.5 controller problem
I sent my controller to Hobby services to fix a broken gimbal. I have not gotten it back yet, but it looks like they are fixing it under warrenty.

sounds like something broke inside if it is still under warranty i would send it back to them.

RE: realflight g3.5 controller problem
Eh, the first thing you should do is determine if there actually -IS- a problem with the controller itself or with communication to the computer.
Open the "Joystick" in the control panel and calibrate it. Observe the behaviour of the sticks here. If the points "stick" while moving around, then it may be a problem with the interlink. Check it again by connecting it to another computer and see if you get similiar results. |
RE: realflight g3.5 controller problem
I can believe that something went wrong with the controller. They are pretty light and cheap. I've heard a lot about them breaking easily. The LHS here even had a broken one on their display unit for a couple months! Ross

RE: realflight g3.5 controller problem
You have to understand that I can get on the sim right now and fly, but the left controller stick mechanically will not go down past a little above half throttle. This means that I constantly am flying with atleast half throttle and can't even land, and it makes flying a 90 size helicopter practically impossible. I went ahead and tried calling great planes, but they said they were closed at the time, probably because it is saturday.

Thanks opjose for telling me to callibrate the controller. I know it is something mechanical inside the control, but somehow I made it to where half throttle,{where it will no longer go down}, is now no throttle if you pull down firmly. It is still very awkward, but until I can get it fixed this will keep me busy, thanks alot.

They are pretty good at getting them turned around very quickly. ---- Broken controllers at an LHS are - NO - indication of how the Interlink will hold up! I was standing next to an LHS G4 display a few weeks ago. Up walks a 5 year old, who pulls the controller cord, smashing the controller on the ground. His mother sees this and walks up, tells him to stop playing with it, picks up the pieces and hides them, leaving the now broken controller on the display. I felt like telling her that she just bought herself a $200.00 controller. |
RE: realflight g3.5 controller problem
sometimes parents should be made responsible for the actions of their children, If so they probably would pay more attention to what they are doing. I peeve is to go to a nice resturant and have kids acting up. I am not against kids because I have children of my own and grandchildren but they know how to act in public. I take my grandchildren flying--8-10 and 14. The 10yr old is starting a flying club in school and I will kinda be their advisor. Some of the club members are going to donate trainers and see if they can get into the school to teach building. What a great opportunity to introduce kids to the sport. I was a substance abuse counselor for many years and if you get children involved in healthy activities maybe they won't seek the thrill???? of drugs. Wow!! I feel like a preacher. Just that I like to see young people engage in good activities.
