ELECTRIC TO GAS CONVERSION ??
 

I just saw Steve Herlacher's review of the 36" wingspan Hobbico Flyzone J-3 Cub.

I'd like to buy it and replace its electric motor with a Cox .049 RC Bee. Would this be possible? I hope so because I know the Cox will penetrate the wind FAR better.

The aileron servo would be used for throttle control instead. Would fuel-proofing be an issue?

I'm getting back into the hobby after many years and I'm amazed how everything has changed! I bought a GP Flight Sim ... THAT will help a lot!

while they do make an exhaust type of throttle it really does not work well,I have a dragonfly .049 on a champton eindecker and with the exhust almost fully closed idle is about 6000 rpm still to fast to land.still have to wait for it to run out of fuel.all you need to mount it would be to epoxy an 1/8" thick plywood firewall and some #2 sheet metal screws.

I would be more worried about weight redistribution and wing loading. I believe you can add another servo to the radio for the throttle. That's not much of an issue. You would have to use the same battery pack because the ESC is built into the rx, plus the extra weight of the engine, mount and fuel. more speed will be more stress on the wings. If you have to beef up the spar, that's more weight. Nitroplanes has a cute little .10 size cub that would probably be a better choice for nitro power.
