Teaching son to fly....
My oldest boy is 9 and we are in the process right now of building a Sig Something Extra together. In the Spring or Summer I plan on taking him to the field and letting him begin to learn on a buddy box. I also have a Avistar and I was wondering which people thing would be best to teach him on?

RE: Teaching son to fly....
The Avistar by far is a better training plane. The Something Extra is a good plane, but it would definitely not be a beginner plane, it is not as forgiving as the Avistar and the control surfaces react MUCH faster than the trainer.
My opinion is that both you and your son will enjoy the experience alot more if you start with the Avistar. T. |
RE: Teaching son to fly....
I would think that the Avistar would be better for him to start on, but if he gets on a sim, and with a buddy box, he will probably be ready for the SSE soon after.
Enjoy the project with your son, and let him do as much of the work as he is willing to. My kids tell me I tend to take over and do things myself. I built a SPAD trainer with my 9 year old daughter this winter, and am building another one with my 10 year old daughter right now. My 12 year old son wants to learn to fly on my Alpha, he is not interested in building. Good luck. |
