engine backfire (why)?

hey guys i have a super tiger 60 engine and most of the time when i go to start it i have to stop and restart it 10 times because it backfires and runs the wrong way. i'm wondering what causes that and what i can do to stop that....thanx.

RE: engine backfire (why)?

Sounds like you have probably overprimed it, or the main needle is set too rich.

its just starting it...once its running and flying everything is just fine. its starts really nice, just the wrong way lots of times. i've tryed choking it less to almost nothing and there is no difference

As Bingo said, it's flooded. 99 times out of 100 that is why they run backwards. Just don't prime it as much next time.

I personally would not worry about it. Super tigre engines like staring wet and they are fairly high compression, so its bound to happen. With my ST 51 i just flip the engine backwards to start it.

Read the thread "Engine running backward".

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7043935/tm.htm

There you will find out how to start a two cycle engine, as attested to by 5 guys with a combined 230 years of flying model airplanes.

Spring
Just try to start it back words and see what happens;):D You are not getting the prop pulled all the way through compression and it kicks back. How you adjust your prop on the engine make a difference how you pull it through.

I dont prime mine I get it spinning with the starter then tap the muffler outlet once or twice to choke it and it fires right up. Also dont pull the starter away until your sure its running so it doesnt have the chance to pop backwards.

Another thing you could do is get an electric starter, much easier and faster that way.;)

F-15...I just took it for granted he had electric, these stub finger guys are better pilots than me.[sm=thumbup.gif]
