Wasted Notch

So, I must be pretty dumb....I read through all the instructions about mounting my engine, but naturally didn't look at the pictures. It turned out my needle valve poked into the fuselage, so I made a notch for it. However, I later realized [today about 10 minutes ago] that the reason it was too low was because I mounted the engine mounts upside down. Now, when I redid it the right way, the needle valve JUST clears the side, well the side that would've been there if I didn't put the notch in it. So, now I have a wasted notch, and I'm wondering if there's anything I should or need to do about it? Oh, and now my left thrust is right thrust, that's good right?

Thanks guys, I feel better about it now. Although I was hoping you would say "Oh don't worry, everyone does that", so at least I wouldn't feel so stupid, heh! Thanks.

I've done something similar. Just make sure you fuel proof the area you cut out if it is wood.

Yeah, what should I fuelproof with thin/thick CA glue? Covering the whole area? Thanks.

What I do and it seems to do the trick, is to take some 30 minute epoxy and thin it with some 91% rubing alcohol. Put enough in until it is the consistency of warm syrup, then paint it on the area you want to fuel proof.

And don't worry about the notch...

in 6 or 8 months, it will be the least noticable damage on the whole plane :D

Like Art said, we've all done it. Building is a learning process just like flying. The longer you stay with the hobby, the better you'll get at both (at least, that's how it SHOULD work)

Honey? Can you help me get my head unglued from the table?

Another air vent is always a good thing. Helps to keep air flowing through the engine compartment. If it wasn't for mistakes, how would we learn? Man o man, am I learning!

If anyone asks, you meant to do it to make it easier to get your fingers around the needle value. A little extra clearance never hurt anyone :D

Yea- I changed engines from a remote needle valve engine to a conventional needle valve engine. What a notch - Oh Well. I just put some monokote over it and kept on flying.

Good Luck

The way to verify genuine Navaho jewelry is the small flaws found. Machine made is flawless. All my projects are extremely genuine.

I cover my un-wanted holes with a small decal, or graphic...croz

NCLights - Wait til you build your VERY expensive pride and joy and drill the needle or glow plug access hole off by 1/4" in a the fiberglass cowling. That's an appropriate time to be annoyed.

For now just fly and don't sweat stuff like that.

Yeah, like CaffeenMan said!

I just finished my 1/4 scale cap, and did a beautiful job cutting the cowl to fit my Super Tigre 2300 perfectly. Well, now I have decided to use an OS 1.60. Now I have holes all over the cowl in all the wrong spots!

Oh well, chalk it up to experience. You are the only one who will even notice the extra notch. This is not the first mistake you will make. and it is really no big deal. Go fly and have fun!!
