Replace CA Hings
I need to remove and replace the CA hings on the elevator/stabilizer for a Piper J3 Cub I am buidling. Any suggestions on how to do this? If I cut the existing hings to separate the elevator and stabilizer, can I then re-cut the slots and what is the best way to do this? Is there a way to remove the existing hings first?
Thanks. |
Replace CA Hings
I've never done this before, but I think I read the idea is to cut the existing hinges, and either cut them to flush or make new hinge slots and put new ones in. It seems like either would work. Hope this helps.

Replace CA Hings
Jim,
I'd suggest you cut new slots right next to the old hinges you cut. Try to maintain even spacing between the hinges (as possible) and you'll be OK. |
Replace CA Hings
Ed is correct, do NOT try to put the new hinges where the old ones are. Either put them next to the old ones, or drill holes where the old ones are and use Robart Hinge Points with epoxy.
The reason is, thin CA will not stick well to an area that has already had thin CA applied to it. |
Replace CA Hings
I've wondered that myself. I've never had to replace ca hinges, but I'm sure I will need to one day. Thanx for asking that question Jim. Thanx for the answers all.
