Well, that was alot of much needed suggestions. I thank all who had aleast their $.02 to share. Now my only ? is what is an APC prop? Im familiar with MAS, which is what I would consider for the next 11x6 I try. I also will try the 11x5 tomorrow at the field and respond back as to what I found. I will be going to my LHS tomorrow and getting my 11x6 prop(s) and would like to know more about what the APC props are. Thanks

APC is just another brand. Your LHS should carry them. If all you can get is a MAS then that is fine too. It won't break like a wood one.

Uh....... guys, he HAS an 11x5 prop and wants to know if he can use it.....or what throw it away. So the answer is YES HE CAN USE IT!

Besides, that prop will help him slow down nicely when its time to land. An LT-40 would probably fly on a toothpick anyway.

I have only been flying a year, but I have used 10X6, 10X7, 11X6 and 11X5s.

I settled on the 11X5 because I found the reduced speed helped a lot with the LT-40s tendency to not want to (ever) land.

It also gives a shorter takeoff roll.

But like many have said, just experiment.

I actually went with the 11-5 when prepping the LT for the annual float fly.

Good idea... Why? Because with floats taking off from water there is alot more drag so the extra torque is then needed or is useful.

I happend to have an APC prop on my Wingo. I didnt realize thats what an APC was. It sure looks different than a MAS. Is there a reason its a little different looking, and does it have an advantge/disadvantage over MAS, or is it more of a Ford vs. Chevy type of deal?

More of a Lincoln Ford or Acura Honda type thing.The APC's are more efficient while the MA are a little cheaper but wil work fine for a trainer.

Well, I bought 2 11x6 MAS, & 1 11X6 APC. When I got to the field I found out that niether would work with the adapter nut I had on my spinner (Dave Brown). The MAS was too thick. Need a shorter adapter nut. And the APC was same way, and wont work with the Dave Brown spinner. So I ended up using the 11x5 wood one I had. Well, all said and done, I didnt care for it, at all. Most of the guys at the field fly 11x7 on their OS 46 FX's. After I got home (with snapped wood prop...long story), I put the 11x6 APC on and put the original spinner back on. It will be a week before I can try it. I was afraid to just jump right up to 11x7 after not trying the 11x6 APC.

Ok, that story got me thinking, why don't trainers come standard with spinner nuts like Dubro or Higgly spinner nuts? It's so much easier to change props, and with a trainer, that seems to happen a lot.

(ok, on thinking about it, I know why. The spinner comes in the kit and will fit most any engine, a spinner nut has to have the correct threads. Still, if you find yourself changing props a lot, ditch the plastic spinner).

Yeah, the Dave Brown spinner is a breeze to get on and off, I can get another adapter nut, but Im gonna have to stick with a plastic one if I use the APC. Im very interesed in seeing how it will perform.
No WreckRman2, I live very close to New Castle, but I fly just north of Middletown, Right on the Delaware/Henry county line. Its nice when your on the county line, i.e no power lines+ no houses

Would it hurt anything to "modify" my aluminum spinner to accept the APC, or am I better off not to mess with it?

You can use a dremel to open up the spinner to take a bigger prop. I've did it several times.

opening it up to accept an APC wont hurt the integrity of the spinner. Thats sounds GOOD. I cant stand the plastic spinner. Just gotta get the adapter nut to run APC and MAS. Thanks for all the input from everyone. BTW, the guys at my field swore up and down that ALL they run is 11x7 on ALL their 46 FX's. But they all fly sportier type planes, not a trainer like me. Think I should give on a try before trying the 11x6 APC?
