Pheonix models Sonic

Looks like the weather will improve enough for me to maiden the Sonic. We have gotten so much snow I have been unable to get back to the flight line.[&o] I've got my fingers crossed.

Well the maiden turned out great. After I finally got her in the air. The field needs to be rolled and she has tiny wheels. Made for some rough take offs and landings.. But over all she flew great. The 30 four stroke feels a little under powered. I'm hoping it will wake up as the engine breaks in.

Glad to hear, I wish I could get a flight or two in. Still just a little too much snow here yet. If the weather holds I expect the field to be clear enough by about mid week, fingers crossed.

How are Phoenix planes? There are a couple of .40's that I've got my eye on for #2.

RE: Pheonix models Sonic

Saturday was awesome! This little devil is a great flyer. Went out Sunday to get some more time in. Three time up everything was fine. Then the fourth flight came. After making two turns, trying to circle the field, she pitched down and went into a tight roll. Crash bang boom. Luckily I was able to regain some control and managed not to nose her into the ground. The tail section was removed from the fuselage. During the repair process I discovered the nose weight had come loose and was floating around inside the fuselage. I guess that is where the down pitch came from. Still not sure what caused the roll. Alerions binding? Anyway I have Friday off so guess where I will be.

FatOrangeKat, I was happily surprised when my sonic showed up. The over all quality of the model is good. The hardware package has it's good points and bad points. I would not be afraid to purchase another one. Damn this thing was cheep!! The only complaint I really have is the color pattern. The base color is white, the side of the fuselage, tops of the wing, and the sides of the stabilizers are red, yellow, blue, and black. But look at the bottom of the wing and stabilizer and it is a crazy green checker board. YUCK!![:'(] The pictures on towers page did not show this. Hope this helps..

I finished repairing the tail section last week and was off to the field this weekend. By relocating the battery pack I was able to remove about 4oz of weight. During the first flight I noticed the alerions where acting funny again. Man these things are becoming a pain. I think I finally got it. They seem to be binding on the throttle servo. Knowing there will be some more modding in the future. I may a temporary change at the field so I could fly. When she was up she flew great.:D I will get some pics posted ASAP..

Sorry it has taken so long to get the pictures posted. These are before and after the crash. I should have the repaired pictures up shortly.

No more sonic. I killed her this weekend. The only thing left was the wing.
