Fuel Damaged?
 

Hi Guys,

I accidentally left my fuel outside in 30 degree temps for two nights.The container had kind of compressed. Is this fuel still going to be good or not? Thanks

As long as it was closed it will be fine. Cold won't effect it, but heat can.

It will be fine as long as it is capped. I store my fuel in the garage all winter and no problems.

I had about a half gallon of S&W that I found in my back room last week. I checked it, it seemed to be ok, so I brought it to the field last Wednesday and tried it on my Protege. The engine started and ran just fine with no problems at all. The plastic bottle was sealed (with the cap on tight, I mean) so it was not exposed to any moisture (alcohol absorbs water) and it did not separate.

Your container compressed because the container was closed, and the cold temp caused the inside air to condense. Normal atmospheric static pressure then caused the container to compress.
As long as fuel is sealed, and kept out of bright light, temp. changes within livable temps. do not hurt the fuel. Now if you fill a plastic jug with cool fuel, then place it outside in this TX summer sun, well, expansion just may be stronger than the plastic jug. Wonder how I know that?? [&o]

I have fuel that is years old[bought from a friends estate that had been stored for unknown years as he aquired it mostly thru sales of estates] and is stored in unheated garage in Wisconsin. I still use all the time as if it were fresh. It works just as good as any other. I don't think that there is any such thing as fuel getting old from one year to the next as long it is stored in cool, dark conditions and tightly sealed. I have fuel left in my flight box from last year that I intend to go right on using just as if it were new.

I store all my fuel in an old refrigerator. It stays a constant cool temp and nice and dark. Will last a long time this way.
