Nexstar Engine Mounting
Hello,
I was about to install the engine mount in my Nexstar with thread lock as per the Nexstar directions, when I thought of something: I've read about RC plane engines installed at a slight angle to counteract the spinning motion of the engine pulling the plane to the side. If I install the engine mount in the plane, with thread lock, how will I know that I won't have to realign anything? Has this already been taken into account in the design of the plane? Thanks. |
RE: Nexstar Engine Mounting
I do believe that the offset is already set in the firewall, bit let someone else say for sure to be 100% cause I'm only 99% sure.
As for using thread lock I use BLUE thread lock on all of my rc stuff because you can remove the nuts and bolts after using blue rather than the RED, Si I would recommend only using the blue. |
RE: Nexstar Engine Mounting
I wouldn't worry about it. Just install your engine on the mounts and you'll be fine. But if you have to readjust later it's not a big deal. Threadlok isn't permenant, you can still remove, or loosen, the hardware if you need to adjust it later. That is the blue threadlok isn't permenant, which is what you should use. NEVER use red threadlok on anything on an RC because it is permenant and you won't get it apart again.

RE: Nexstar Engine Mounting
The thrust angle is built into the firewall of the Nexstar. I had one during my training days and it flew just fine.

RE: Nexstar Engine Mounting
Yes, use the blue threadlock. Loctite #242 available at any auto parts store.

RE: Nexstar Engine Mounting
Get this...I did get the right thread locker...the "Blue" thread locker comes in a red bottle! I even went to the hardware store today; they had "Locktite" brand thread locker. Both came in red bottles, but the "medium, removeable" product said "blue" on the label.
Did they not learn to color code in all the countries we outsource everything to? |
