RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
How many times have you seen people here in the beginner's forum ask "Where can I find info on getting started?"
I am happy to announce that Ken and I have finally completed a project that we have had in the works for over two years. We have just launched [link=http://www.gettingairborne.com/index.html]www.gettingairborne.com[/link] which is a site devoted to helping the beginner get started in Glow-Powered airplanes. We hope you like it, and thank you for your support. |

RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Site looks great. Found a broken link (videos at bottom of page) and a couple typos (didnt think to remember them, not that big a deal to me). It is something beginners are always looking for. Even though I am not a beginner I had to read through and found a few interesting things. Keep up the good work.

RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Mike,
Would it be appropriate to put suggestions/questions here, or should they be PM'd to you? |
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Looks great

RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Very nice web site. You have taken the "buddy box" to the next level.
Only one question. Is that picture of Ken from 1985? David |

RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
gboulton, you can make suggestions here if you like - unless you want to suggest we put GettingAirborne where the sun don't shine - in that case, PM them :D

RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Great job guys.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
I would add the Sig Mid-Star to the intermediate trainers. I have read on these forums that they build quick, and are very stable in flight.

I'd wager ONE of you has built/flown/owned the venerable Telemaster. :) |
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Oh, one other comment...
On : http://www.gettingairborne.com/download_page.html "Video Set #1 - Building an RC Trainer Kid" Wow...bet THAT'S an interesting set of videos. ;) |
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Great Site!! Lot's of good info for beginners. Between your site and Paul's Airfieldmodels.com, there are few questions still left to be answered.

RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Fantastic! Thanks, ken and Minn!!
Wonderful site that I will spend the entire evening on, I'm sure. There's a lot that I have forgotten over the years. |
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Nice job, guys!
One comment, you only listed the Avistar as an RTF (and slammed it for having a weak engine). It does come as an ARF, and then you can choose whatever engine you want. I started with an Avistar and an OS 50SX, and that engine has lived on to fly in at least two other planes since then. EDIT - BTW, I'm putting a link to your Getting Airborn page on our club's website! |
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
I HAVE owned a Telemaster. but it was a LOOOng time ago and I did not build it.
I remember it was an all-stick build which I would discourage a newbie from attempting, and since we have the LT-40 on there, well hell, it's damn near the same plane and a helluva lot easier to build than a stick-frame. |
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Another comment...sorta a general web design" thing...
THANK YOU for actually launching a site WITH CONTENT. There are, imo, very few things on the web as annoying as "Come check out my site!" and when you get there, it's one page of "This will be my site about transexual nazi eskimos spanking spanish nuns" and everything else a bunch of "Coming soon!" garbage. It's a treat to see someone say "Hey, we have this site with useful info" and to find that the site ACTUALLY HAS a significant amount of useful info! |

So, where's the transexual nazi eskimos spanking spanish nuns website? http://www.minnartist.net/RCU/grafix/scool.gif

RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Great Job guys - I'll have to put your site in the monthly newsletter.
|
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Thanks! We'll take all the free publicity we can get :D
|
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
On you're radio page, The diagram under "Servo Reversing" should read "USA Standard Mode 2 Transmitter", not Mode 1.
|
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
Good catch. I fixed it. Thanks
|
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
You guys rock (but where's the Nexstar?![&o] Thanks!
|
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
I've never even seen a Nextar in person. I've heard good things about it, but I've also heard bad things about it.
We are not going to post hearsay. I happen to be a big fan of hobbico stuff, but I'm not going to recommend something that I don't have first-hand experience with. |
RE: RC Ken and MinnFlyer have joined forces
i like the about us part the best:D. well this sure will help all the newcomers here
