Solo'd
Well yesterday after work, i told the wife and kiddies I'm ging to go fly this this, the weather was perfect, little over 70 and little wind.
Packed up and off i went, unloaded, and had the only guy there to help me get it running smootly on the table and after was asked if i've ever flown befer and i replied, "NOPE, but mess araound on the sim A LOT" ! i was feeling pretty confident and took a deep breath and throttled up and up she went... Other than my knees knocking, i wasnt to sure if my eyes were bigger than my @^% eating grin, but i was flying so i couoldnt care. after a few laps I was informed where a good spot where everyone lines up with on the run way and throttled down and floated her in with a few bumps but pretty impressive i was told for a first landing with no help, or on a buddy box. second time up went just as smooth, practicing touch and goes and fighting a little cross wind, but nothing major, they went fine until my final landing and "RUMP" prop hit the ground and set her down quick. other that that i felt great!!! but I flew first time ever and was pleased!!! after a few minutes one of the instuctors came and was told what i had done and was impressed and told me to come this weekend and he'd help me out even more!!! so im even more pumped about it!!! shld have waited for him in the first place, but we live and learn. But just thought I'd share my Solo story!!! |

Good job. I have yet to solo t/o or land. Flying around is fine. Its the final approach and lining up with the runway that get nerve-racking. And I can get the plane to go where I want it but if the trainer says "do this or that" I cant seem to do exactly what they want. Oh well. All in good time. What are you flying?

RE: Solo'd
Congratulations! Yep, quite an accomplishment. We always preach about doing it with an instructor but you managed to get it done by yourself. Very impressive and we all are very happy for you!!
Now, do what your instructor suggested. There are a few things that you really need to get instruction on, especially emergency procedures, particularly dead stick landings and cross-wind landings. And, I'm sure there are more things to get brushed up on, but those are probably the most crucial for now. Ok, so get some buddy box time for those procedures, but don't let that get in the way of having fun!! Enjoy the hobby. Toss in some practice landings while having fun and get some fuel burned. My instructor always told me that the best way to learn is to burn fuel. Get that thing up there and practice practice practice.. and of course, have fun, fun, fun. CGr :D |
