Not a second plane but an additional plane
 

I have a Kadet LT-40 that I soloed with yesterday. I am not ready for a typical second plane but would like to add a plane to my fleet God forbide something happens to the Kadet. I need something easy to fly, but not as easy as your traditional trainers. I also do not want to spend a lot of money on this plane as I may beat it up a little as my landings are not as smooth as a more seasoned pilot. It would also be nice if this plane offered something different in flight than my Kadet. Any suggestions?

Try a stick plane, they are in different sizes and different brands. I do like the Ultra Stick 60 size by Hangar 9.

I thought about a Stick as they come highly recommended at the club, but not at this early stage. I am looking for something a little more docile. I will have a Stick but I need more air time.

Try a larger ,cheaper,slower version of the "Stick" types. The Super Stunts by World Models...Lands like a Ballerina ! LOL !

Hey Blazer1, you don't need to apologize - many of us have MANY airplanes hanging from the garage ceiling, so we can go fly whatever model(s) strike(s) our fancy that particular day. It's all good!

A Pulse XT would be a good choice too... Sticks are also a "must have".

The Goldberg Protege .60 ARF is on sale right now at Tower Hobbies for $129.99. You could fly it with an O.S. .65 LA or Thunder Tiger GP-61 and enjoy easy smooth flying like your LT-40 if you want to fly it that way, or crank up the throttle and enjoy some spirited aerobatics.



The Protege is a nice look high wing aerobatic trainer that will fly very well with any of the inexpensive .60-size 2-strokes on the market. It would be just as easy to fly as your Sig LT-40, but perhaps more aerobatic, and will give you a different "flavor" of trainer flying.

Blazer, there are a number of planes out there. A couple that you might want to consider:

1. Avistar- It`s a trainer, yes, but with a good 46 up front it can take you to the next level. It can be more of a sport plane than your LT-40 but still retain some trainer like characterics.

2. World Model T-34. Easy flying low wing trike gear. Super smooth flyer.

Another option is the World Models Sky Raider Mach-1. It is still a high-wing trainer type airplane but has a semi-symetrical airfoil and less dihedral that many trainers. This will allow you to advance a little if you are ready but still function as a basic trainer if you aren't. It's not the nicest looking plane in my opinion but it flys well and is relatively inexpensive.

In a similar position to you, I got a Great Planes Big Stik 60. Then my trainer, a Hobbico Superstar died in a mid-air collision.

I'm not sure about the "40" size version of the Big Stik, however the 60 size flies and lands better than my Superstar.

Also, the Big Stiks aren't expensive.
