RX battery pack for 60 size warbird
Hi,
I'm getting ready to order a 60 size warbird (BH Models T028 Trojan). It will have 6 servos. What would be a good rx battery pack for this plane. I'd like to stick to 4-cell NiCad / NiMh. I don't really want to go lipo and regulator. What type of capacity and current should I be looking for? Would a 1000mAh AA pack be to small for 6 servos? Would a small Nimh pack (something like 2000mAh AA) deliver enough current? Or should I look at Sub-C cells? I do not worry too much about capacity, I generally don't get more than 4 or 5 flights per day. Thank you for your input. Remy |

AA is plenty and 1,000mah is plenty. I use mostly 2,000mah NiMH on most of my planes all the way up to my gasser.
I use these packs with great results: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXNRH6&P=ML Although I think the next pack I buy I will try one of these: http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp...ROD&ProdID=886 |

mah is the "proper term" for capacity

Picking up on what smedsky said. The mah rating is how long the pack will last. You can fly that warbird with its 6 servos on a stock 600mah battery but you will only get about 3 flights or so before it needs to be recharged.

1000 mah would be OK for standard servos. If you are using digital servos, I'd go with the 2000 mah packs.

Missleman, have you done any research on those brand batteries? That looks like a great deal

I have heard from a couple of people that they are good but I have not seen one at the field.
I think I will buy a pack and try it out on a cheap plane or maybe run one in a buggy for a little while and see what happens. |
RE: RX battery pack for 60 size warbird
I am on a tight budget, I may get a couple of packs and see how it does, I will keep my eye on it, the batteries would be an overkill anyways (MAH) but the price seems right
Thanks |
RE: RX battery pack for 60 size warbird
I know that Hangar-9 warbirds recomend 1000 mah packs for there warbirds with retract servos,I have 1500mah packs in the 2 of mine, and after 4 flights there is little drop in the voltage.

In regards to the Tenergy batteries linked above, not to long ago I purchased a box of five of them in five cell packs but the same cell 2300map. If I remember correctly each pack was fourteen something from the same company.
Three are now in working airplanes, two in warbird pylon racers (smallish airplanes with 110 FS power) and one in a forty sized trainer type used in taxi racing. All have been fine so far with no issues. Keep in mind with these or any high capacity batteries you must use an appropriate charge system and that usually precludes the wall chargers normally included in radio system sets. If you don,t then you will never get the full use from the batteries and likely an early death for them. No matter how long you leave them charge. John |

Yes but probably not for long. I tend to stock up on all the expendables (batteries, switchs, props, glow plugs, Rx's, servo wire just makes things so much easier since I seem to average about one new airplane of various types a month.

Thank You missileman, and yes that is what I was trying to say, just have not installed the last two in anything yet and I will likely purchase more batteries from these folks in the future.

Maybe it's just me being paranoid but I usually wouldn't skimp on the batteries. IF the battery fails midflight, that's it. There is no dead-sticking.
I've used Radicalrc.com and their sanyo packs have done really well in my car RX so I know it's good stuff. Japanese quality cells and USA made packs... (not that I have anything against chinese packs, I just can't get myself to put a $400 plane on a $10 battery when I can get a proven pack for $10 more). Just my opinion of course. |
RE: RX battery pack for 60 size warbird
I just ordered 2 batteries from them, a 6 volt that I want to try in my telemaster and a 4.8 volt
