MY US 60 FLEW TODAY!!
 

In the capable hands of our club instructor Jack it flew like all you experts said it should. Straight as a speeding bullet and always did what he told it to do. I was thrilled, only my second kit build. Retracts and flaps worked as they were supposed to. The new OS 61AX, still running rich as recommended, had the power to pull it vertical to maybe 300 ft. Plane weighed in at 7 lbs. 12 oz. (Heavy??)

My success with this build was very much due to the generous, kindly, and prompt guidance I received from RC Ken and MinnFlyer and others. I appreciate their help more than I know how to express!!

I hope someday to progress to where I can fly it myself but that's a long way off. I've yet to master my SIG Kadet MK II. I landed it today on it's nose and only slightly cracked the FG engine cowl.
Well, tomorrow is another day.

OS 61 AX? There is a 61 FX and an older 62 SF. Just curious.

Regardless, that's a nice looking build! Nice job. Nice covering.

Once you get your solo, and get a few tanks burned in post solo training, get up on that new one with a buddy box and your instructor. You will be surprized at how quickly you will pick up the differences, and adapt, and be flying that new plane just fine.

No sweat.. I thought it was one or the other.. ha.. either a 61 or a 75. Aaaanyway, no big deal, that's for sure.

That's one sweet looking plane. I would imagine it will fly as good as it looks. Report please.. when you get it up in the air!!!

You can get them from Tower Hobbies. Right now the stock status is saying available in Late April. So hopefully too long they will have them back in stock.

Sure enough, there it is. I searched for US 40 and it came back with the US 40 Plus.

Would this be a potential second plane if I built it with trycle gear and no extras or is it still too much plane for a beginner?

I'm going to have to warn you on this plane. Be prepared to fall into a life long addiction if you fly it!!!!!! I will still stand behind my claims that this is the best flying sport plane ever built.

I spent 2 years campaigning Great Planes to re-release this plane. How did my addiction start?? Very simple. I was at the field one day and my buddy had an US 60 there at the field. While in the air he handed me the radio and let me fly it. That was all it took. From that day on I swore that I would always have an Ultra Sport flying in my hangar!!!!! :D

Frank. it would still be a bit much for a rookie. Try a GP Rapture, Goldberg Tiger or 4* next.

Once you are confident with one of those, you're ready to move up to an Ultra Sport.

I almost started on it but then I got the Hangar-9 Pawnee ARF and I ended up with a TF P-47 kit that I'm currently in the middle of. Once the P-47 is done, the US-60 is next.

Great looking plane, I kinda like the looks of it better than the tiger 60, but I'm still not to the point of getting either one.

If you think you ever want one then you should get it now when it's available. Great Planes will be the first to tell you that what they are selling right now is a limited production run, and when they are gone they are gone. Get on now and stick it aside until you're ready for it.

RCken is right. Even if you aren't ready for this plane, buy it and stash it in the closet until you are. You never know when it will go away again. When they got discontinued the first time, they were selling for several hundred dollars on eBay. Buy now while the price is good.

Thanks, Mike. Guess I'll put this US 60 in the hanger for a while (except when our instructor wants it) and focus on a more appropriate intermediate plane. So many options it'll be difficult to decide which comes next. But you can be sure I'll be looking for more help when my next build starts.
