UP-START OR HI-START

I posted this in the sailplane forum but am not getting any response. Is it OK if I post this question here, as it is a beginner's question? If it is not OK please remove it.

I was given a Tower Hobbies Vista 2 Meter Sailplane ARF as a late birthday gift
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...4&I=LXLGM5&P=K

Will I be able to save money and use the Dynaflite Up-Start?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&P=8&I=LXE637
Or will I need this Dynaflite Standard Hi-Start?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXE635&P=V

The upstart says it can be used on Sailplanes up to 72” and the sailplane I want is 78 1/2”
Is that a big enough difference to matter?

They will both work [)] but I use a power pod , uses a small model engine or motor to get it in the air when the power stops you glide down. Alway's have use for a small engine in this hobby. Winches are also used and if you have a buddy get a tow:D
You could probably get by with a .049 or up to a 10 in engines

RE: UP-START OR HI-START

Your Vista 2 Meter sailplane can be launched by the smaller Up-Start launching system, but you may not be happy with the resulting altitude. It might be wiser to invest in the Hi-Start system instead. The more expensive system will give you better altitude on your launches.

If you need to make the Up-Start system work, however, you can. It should be able to launch your Vista 2M just fine.

Use a hi-start for sure if your field is big enough. I got one (our field is barely big enough) and was glad I did since I wouldn't have been happy with less altitude in my launches.

Would the power pod be better than the Hi-start? It's cheaper than the Hi-start, but what would I be happier with? How big is 800' in compare to a football field?

Just think with a power od you can fly it up and glide it down. No worry about tearing up a plane [:@] getting it up in the air.
been there done that.

Bungie, hi-start, or winch..... none of those will work well with power flyers trying to use the same flying field. So if you plan to fly thermal with power guys, forget about line launchers.

And if you want basically guaranteed longer flights with a glider, electric in the nose guarantees flights long enough to prove there is or there isn't lift that flight.

A 100yd football field is 300' from goal line to goal line. Longer from back of endzone to back of endzone.

"Power pod"......... cheaper than a $50 high start? Nobody much messes with honest-to-god power pods. The ones who did usually found them to be "unhappy" to deal with.
