How to re-thin CA
I have a small can of thin CA and after it sat still, closed cap, for about 3 months it's got the consistency of thick CA. Is there any way to get it back in shape?

Not that I know of. Once it gets like that it's pretty much shot and I'll just toss it out and get a new bottle.

That is why I only buy small bottles unless I am starting a big build.

I have tried thinning with acetone, but it was only marginally successful. Not worth the trouble. I always store my CA's in the freezer. The lack of moisture will let them last alsmost forever.

I was told to put the ca in the freezer, if it is unopened and after I open a bottle keep in the refridge. Never put a open bottle in freezer.
could you use the thick, thin ca, as thick CA???????? |
RE: How to re-thin CA
Hey guys, what is the difference between thick and thin CA??? And that glue works for tires. I didn't knew that it works on wood too

RE: How to re-thin CA
No way I know of to 'rethin" CA, since what's happened is that it's begun to cure. It's trash at this point, imo.
Now, in our "for what it's worth" department: I have become an avid user of Mercury Adhesives CA. (http://www.mercuryadhesives.com/) This stuff is AWESOME. I tell my LHS frequently "It's half price...cuz I get to use the whole bottle". I won't go into details of how/why here (they have several pages on their website that do that) but, suffice to say, it scores over any other CA I've ever used in MAJOR ways: I've regularly used an entire large bottle...no waste It's fresher, and thus more consistent in speed, grip, etc I've NEVER had a tip clog (And by never I mean not once...and that's through the assembly of 2 foamies, 1 small ARF, and 2 giant scale kits) They even have low odor stuff that's MUCH easier on those of us bothered by CA fumes. The price is right in line with other brands, and yet you waste far less. |
RE: How to re-thin CA
I work with cyano a lot and have tried thining it with actetone, but it usually gets a bit more friable and crystaline at that point.
I have also used thin stuff that has thickened with no notable problems, it just behaves more like a CA gel. |
RE: How to re-thin CA
if my thinCA has thickened up to where its not flowing,I just get a new bottle of thin and add a enough of the thin to it so its workable, and just use it as though it was med.
