Poor nexstar taking a beating...

Well Ive been solo'ing for a couple weeks now and decided to get a lil more experimental. I was doing full throttle passes over the runway gradually getting lower and lower. Fueled up a couple times and was just going up and down. The last try i was flying with the wind and it was moving pretty good. I brought it lower and lower till "JACK" ,(thats how it sounded), I had touched down at full throttle. I bounced right up into the air and I guess I just hit enough to stop the prop. I tried to gain what altitude I could but couldnt get her back to the runway. It went down in some tall grass/muck and just did a flip. We made our way over and to my amazement no damage. Not even the prop was beat up. Poor thing has got to hate me.

Sounds like my dead stick I had today... Not quite as bad, I just nosed over a little... Glad she stayed in one piece for you.

Live and learn but thats the fun of it all too. Don't worry, someone else is getting a good laugh at your expense but it's be your turn to point fingers before the day is out. Even the better pilots routinely screw up. What really makes an interesting day is some trainer "taking out" a $4000 Extra. Just get out the lawn chair and watch the expletives fly! In 10 years at this ,I have never seen a giant scale get nailed by another of equal wallet. Always been some cheap thing.

haha very true. Every close call I have seen has been a $3000 dollar plane and a cheapy.

Yeah them guys that have those 3000.00 planes just can't hang with the cheapies very well. Underpowered i think is the problem they just get in the way sometimes lol. That is why i use a small block chevy on my bigger planes. J/K glad your plane was ok.

What lessons did you learn?

For example, what do you think the probability is of being able to turn back to the runway?

And what are the consequences of hitting the runway flat out? You've just experienced the best case, how often do you think that's what happens?

It's kewl to have something like that turn out with no damage. Good deal.

But beginners need to learn from their mistakes. What do you think you shouldn't do again?

Hey Erik. Glad that your nexstar is still hanging in their. I finally got the parts and almost back together with mine so I should see you up their soon. It might be time for some trainer combat lol

Yea, those poor trainers. They take brutal punishment from a complete beginner, give it all they got when that beginner starts trying some oddly shaped loops and rolls, try their best to stay together long enough, and take the landing gear punishment long enough to be put on the shelf in favor of a more aerobatic / faster plane.

-Sniff- My poor trainer. R.I.P.! [:o]

She started as white, then to white, red, blue and electrical tape with canopy flapping in the breeze and a crooked tail repair, to a pile of balsa sticks loosely held by monocote.

Dude dont feel bad my Superstar has been beaten and repaired pretty good. I had a cross wind landing crash that broke my horizonal stab. Well I was ready to tear it down and fix it when my buddy noticed there was a rear half of a fuze with the horizonal and vertical stabs in place. Hanging from the impound area with a 'for sale' sign as a joke. Well the horizonal stab is now on my plane. LOL! The monocote dont match but she still flys.

Well I shouldnt beat a plane I care about like that. I know that! But I knew I was pushing it. I reacted well as I didnt try to turn hard for the runway and stall the thing into the ground. Just kept it floating but not to the preferrable spot. i have to say it was pretty slick though. And in hindsight I had a much better chance at a graceful landing if I took the plane left instead of right. So I did learn something. Just shoulda realised the best approach in this for this situation. .... oh and I think ill be doing it again. :D Thanks for the advice.

And Dan, Im pretty sure the nexstar is nearing the end of its flight time as Im getting more and more agressive with it so a trainer combat may be in the near future. ;) We can just tie some 10ft ribbons off the back just for show and see what happens! Only thing I would hate to lose is the engine.
