.70 4-stroke. Need a plane to put it in
 

Hi all,

I have a .70 Magnum and need something to put it in. :)

Runway conditions are not to good for landing so it needs to have a rugged undercarriage and be slowish for landing, not flight :D

Our runway is quite small and my Hellcat (60 size) just about gets in, hope that gives you a rough idea anyway.

I want something easy to fly though, kinda something to relax with between warbirds but can do a bit when called for (not talking 3D here though)

Could you guys recommend me something please.

I already have a cub (doesn't everyone :D )

I want something a little more sporty though but as I said, strong undercarriage and short roll out on landing. Maybe like a Pulse but not if you know what I mean :)

U Can Do 3D

Great sport plane on low rates. Lands so slow and soft, it's amazing. Awesome vertical. Very easy to fly, and can also handle 3D. Perfect match for a .70 Magnum 4-stroke (that's the engine in 4 out of 5 UCD's at my club).

People have gotten them as a second plane and loved them, and guys are still using it as their go to plane.

I had a good look at that, (reviewed on this site) thanks matey.

I don't like the servos 'outside' the plane though but it's in no way a deal breaker.

Understood. If you heard the 4 or 5 guys I see fly this thing on a regular basis say about it, it might put you over the edge. It gets pretty graphic otherwise I'd post it here!

I think any good 40 size fun fly or 3D type plane might be a good candidate. They need very little room t take off and you can almost land some of them vertically. The Hangar-9 Tango looks interesting. Actually it looks goofy but I still think it might be fun.

I have a Magnum .70RFS looking for a home as well. I'm holding out for the Piper Pawnee from Horizon Hobby. Backordered though. :eek:

Contender 60 or a Big Stik 40. I've had OS 70II Surpasses in both of these and they are a good match up.

Another vote for the H9 twist 40. Fun to fly, floats or hauls butt. Lands easier than a trainer. Just an all out fun plane. I run the magnum 70 in mine.

Another vote for the Twist . I have an OS 70 in mine ( actually i'm on my second one i like it so much ) . It IS my go-to plane for ALL seasons and conditions . It will do anything you want and more . Take-off roll is about 20 feet , and it lands SOOOOO smoothly , it will make anyone look like a good pilot .

I think I mentioned I should of posted this in the Sport flyer section but whatever;)

So, looking at the above planes one thing I don't like about some is the open cowling, great planes though they are, all my planes are closed cowling and that's how it's staying:D

What do you guys reckon to the Hangar 9 Funtana X 50?

I don't want 3D but on low rates it looks like a nice flying plane?

Hi,

I would offer this: take a look on Tower Hobbies website at the Sig Sundancer 50 biplane. This is an ARF of top quality and flies real nice and is capable of every trick in the book yet slows down very nice for landing. I have one with a Mag 70 four stroke and it has almost unlimited vertical and very fast top speeds. The only mod needed would be to beef up the landing gear mount area in the fuselage. I mixed up expoxy and poured it in the cavity where the main gear mounts up. No problems. You can find it at the following location. Thx FJK, very nice plane but expensive in the UK. Think it's around $350!!!

Would a Hangar 9 Showtime 50 fit this engine you think?

Yes that would be another good plane. I didn't realize the Sundancer would be that much. It goes for $249 in the US. Any plane with simular weight and wing loading would be a good plane for that engine. Keep in mind a .70 four stroke is roughly equal to a .55 two stroke in power. Any plane rated for a 50-60 size two stroke should work fine.
