Trouble removing Carb
 

I have an OS 46 AX which went down in water a few weeks back. At this point the card is stuck closed. I am trying to remove the carb by loosening the screws at its base. I cant get either of them to budge. Ive started to strip the heads a bit already. Can someone please give me some help on this. I have a new plane I want to put this in - ASAP! Thanks!

Can you grab the screw heads with a small pair of vice grips? Also, make sure you are using the right size screwdriver. Maybe one a little bigger or a little smaller will work better.

I've also used a small chisel to tap screws loose before. You have to be careful though and you'll likely have to get new screws.

You can try heating with a heat gun. the alu. will expand faster than the screws and loosen up. I have used this method before and it worked.

Do yourself a favor and get a set of JIS screwdrivers. The Asians cut the Phillips heads differently the the west. These will make life easier in removing carb screws.

Instead of removing the carb. I have had them stuck badly when just being unused for long periods of time. I have had success every time in loosening the carb control simply by using WD40 squirted in and letting it work around in it then using pliers to easily but forceably moving the control arm little by little. if barrel is partly open then use a dowel inserted into barrel to help force it to open. If not successful and head of screws are totally messed up. You will have to drill hole in screw and use an easy out.
