Does anyone know how to get a plane down from a tree?

anybody,

It's just like golf: you have to play it where it lies. You gotta climb up there with your radio, start it up, and fly it home.

Go to Home Depot and guy a spool of nylon cord, at least 200 feet long. Mine is 300 and cost $2. I keep it in my field box.

Then add a 4-6 ounce fishing sinker. The rounded shape type.

Toss the line up, loop the branch and shake it. You can try to hook the plane, but there is a real risk of damage.

As for finding the plane, try a downed plane locator:

If you fly near woods, swamps, tall grass or places where the plane could go
out of sight, get some kind of plane locator. It is amazing how hard it can
be to see a plane in the woods or tall grass that is 10 feet from you.

Here is a review of an Emergency Locator Beacon that illustrates its value
(this site is somewhat unreliable)

Sounds like a good idea to me. Every plane I ever own will have some kind of
locator.

Here are three examples of locators:

http://www.hobbico.com/accys/hcap0335.html
http://www.rcelectronics.bravepages.com/Locator.html

These won't work on my Aerobird. I am using one of these:
http://www.keyringer.com

They look like a small clicker for your car door locks. They work by sound.
You click one of a pair which sends out a chirp that the second one hears and
answers. I place it on top of the wing under the rubber bands that hold
the wing. It balances nicely, and I can easily move it from plane to
plane..

I hope these ideas help you the next time your plane gets stuck or lost. :)

The best idea I've seen used is the PVC or other pipe approach. The trick is to get the pipe in 8 or 10ft segments, and push each segment up towards the plane, attaching the next one to the bottom as you go. You use the tree branches as a guide and to support the pole as it goes up. Then you either push on the plane itself, either upwards or outwards, or you use the pole to sway the branches. I used the baseball and string approach once a while back. Good luck.

If the plane was worth a Bud !!!!! It would be down already. Look like the wind doesn"t even blow where he is.

About 15 years ago, I managed to land a Midwest Sweet stik in the top of a 100 foot pine about 200 feet from the approach end of the runway. We shot a an arrow over the plane. The arrow was attached to fishing line. We attached string to the fishing line and pulled that over the plane. The plane was stuck and wouldn't budge. We attached a heavier cord with a flexible camper's tree saw tied in the middle and pulled that over the plane. We attempted to saw the limb, but managed to saw the plane in half with it. The project took about a week and the plane endured several thunderstorms. I got back a trashed Stik, a rusted old engine and my radio, which did work, but I suspected it to much to ever use it again.
Fast forward 5 years. I land a Sportser in the same tree........on the same limb! We unloaded a box of shotgun shells at it. It wiggled a little, from pain most likely, but wouldn't come down. We suddenly realized the likelihood of being arrested and gave up for the day. While I was at work the next day, a good friend grabbed a tree trimmer he happened upon and brought him to the the tree. He recovered the plane in MINUTES. AS he was climbing down, he yelled down to my friend that it appeared that someone had shot the plane. My friend, to embarrassed to admit it was us acted surprised. We did kill one servo , but the plane was recovered and flew for about another 5 years before it was deemed totally fuel soaked and retired.
Based on those experiences, I say, go find a tree trimming crew somewhere in the neighborhood, at lunch time , and offer one of them 20 or 40 bucks to go get it.

To me, I would think about what kind of tree it was. If I had a plane stuck in an oak or something, I would go home, get the chainsaw. From there, lets just say I would return home with the plane and a LOT of nice oak lumber for the next furniture project :D
