Commander 2 Flight Controls
Hello All,
I'm new to the RC plane hobby however I do have 20yrs of aircraft maintenance experience while in the Air Force. First plane I purchased is now in multiple pieces......Flyzone Cessna 182 just would not stay in the air, Doh!!! Second plane is the Firebird Commander 2.......more or less a glider.......had many successful flights but on my last foray the plane dived in pretty hard (winds were to high to fly and totally my fault for flying in high winds). Anyways, I repaired the obvious damage but now the flight controls don't work. Throttle works great but when I move the right stick (steering controls) nothing happens. The cables move freely by hand so I'm guessing its the servo. I did look at the circuit card and I'm not sure but right over the servo there seems to be a diode or something missing. Anyone else have problems with no response to the controls????? I really want to stay with the hobby since after retiring from the Air Force I do miss being around aircraft however its hard to keep the wife happy when both planes I've purchased are basically out of commission. Was hoping for a quick fix instead of buying a replacement pod/boom. Thanks for any and all responses!!! |
RE: Commander 2 Flight Controls
Fastback,
When you go in that hard it is common to break things, even servos and radios. There is a high probability the circuit board is broken and/or some gears. Servos aren't very expensive, my suggestion is to replace them if they aren't working. Why take the chance for $12? As for missing parts I doubt it. Sometimes boards are designed for multiple applications. This one probably doesn't need a certain part so it was left off. Good Luck, KW_Counter |

Make sure the crystal in in tight, all the connectors are connected ect...
When you move the stick if you hear some humming it is most likely stripped gears in your servos if not I would bet the receiver is damaged. |

RE: Commander 2 Flight Controls
I took the servo apart and found one of the gears jammed against the servo housing. Repositioned the gear and now it moves, but in my haste to fix the thing I didnt note the position of the gear that the control lines connect to before I removed it so now its gonna be a hit and miss till I find the right position to get the control pulls even. Thanks for the help!!!
