Submitted a similar post on the radio board, but not getting much response. Maybe someone here could tell me...Just buddy-boxed a JR 662 with a Quattro, the 662 has Dual Rates (50/100). The Quattro then operated using the High Rates that were set in the 662. If I set the rates, say 50% & 60%, would the Quattro operate at 60%, or does it go to the main radio's default settings of 100/100? If that's the case, is there any way around it?
Trying to fly a Super Sportster so it's not so sensitive.

when the trainer switch is held down, the signals transmitted are from the slave transmitter (the actual RF energy is coming from the master of course). In other words, all the fancy settings in the 662 are ignored. If you have expo or dual rates programmed in the 662 there is no way to use it from the slave transmitter. No workaround that I know of.
Of course, you can change the mechanical linkage (put the clevis on a hole further out from the hinge line).

You may be able to change the crystal out of the 662 and put it in the quattro. Then set up the quattro to fly the plane and use the 662 as the buddy box. Then you would get the dual rates you programmed in the 662. I beleive this to be true. Comments anyone else? I am fairly new to this.

Chrisc is right - you can use the dual rates if the slave transmitter has that capability. But note that it is illegal in the US to swap out a crystal on a transmitter on the 72mHz band

One thing to be aware of if you use the 662 as the master. The button you refer to is tricky. It is hard to hold for any length of time and on mine, just a slight roll of the finger/thumb holding it down can revert control back to the student. My instructor and I used my 662 as a master during my training and we can attribute at least 3 instances where the instructor thought I had the plane, but his thumb had rolled a little bit and it was me that had the plane and didn't know it. One other problem, it is very difficult to hold the button down and keep the throttle semi-equal to the one on the slave. We got through my training and I love the radio, just be real CAREFUL using it as the master. IMHO.

Sorry, this should have read: I thought he had the plane and so did he. However, I really had control since his thumb rolled a little off center.
