Glue
 

I have been using Titebond II for my models. I like it's holding power etc. But it turns to rubber while sanding. Is Elmers better or maybe another brand? Any advise.

Hi oldernut,

Try using the original Titebond (Tightbond "1" if you will). I use it a lot and it sands great.

I also use Titebond II - almost exclusively, and love it. What do you mean it turns to rubber when sanding? Are you sanding the glue? Glue belongs in joints. Are you using too much and it is flowing over other parts that need to be sanded? Or are you saying you start sanding and it just hasn't dried completely?

Is Titebond a CA type glue or more like Elmers. I use Jett CA glue medium mostly, but have both thin and medium. Other than that use Epoxy. 6&30min.
I recently heard of BULL GLUE anyone know of this stuff?

Actually all of the things you mentioned at one time or another. However, in this case it was used in a lamination which was then sanded to shape. The clue had dried for more then 24 hrs.

On the glue topic, what is the best way to clean glue (CA and epoxy) off your hands and off your plane when building? There are definitely some epoxy fingerprints on my covering from assembly.

CA - use debonder or acetone.

Epoxy - harder to clean off because once it sets it's hard for anything to soften it up. If the epoxy is on covering your can usually just scrape it off with a hobby knife or razor blade. Sometimes you can get it off with alcohol, but not always.

One also needs to try the new gorilla wood glue. Grabs fast and doesn't dry yellow.

For both I use sanding paper. Use a fine grit piece and put it on a surface and slide your fingers applying as much pressure as you're comfortable with. It will take care of either type of dried glue immediately.

I should have been more clear on my answer, the ones I gave apply to cleaning the plane.

For my hands, I use debonder to remove CA.

For epoxy. I don't get it on my hands. I buy gloves at Lowes in a box of 100 and I wear them while mixing and applying epoxy. In the odd chance that I do get it on my hands I use alcohol on a paper towel to get it off before the epoxy sets.
