Wing covering procedure?

1 Attachment(s)
I want to cover my wing like the picture shows, do I cover it all in white then put the red on, or is it possible to do it with a little overlap. I don't see how the overlap will work because of the angle and the fact that the open space would be hard to iron the overlap together. I guess it would be possible to lay down a square of red on each end and cut the white to the right angle and lay it on top, what do you think? Also, would it be ok to cover the center line to that it looks like a one piece wing? I'm gonna use auto pin stipe tape for the small white stripe.

Buy one of the covering books or videos. Yes, colors can be overlapped over open bay panels on a wing. You may have to overlap and seal the edges down BEFORE you attach it to the wing. Properly done, it can look very nice.

Brett, look at this article. Video #4 does a wingtip exactly like yours

The last video will show you a good way to do that pinstripe too

I tried some pinstripe on the fuse, and it looked good. I used the same brand you had in the video. I have a black&decker heat gun, that makes ungodly amounts of heat. How hot is the heat gun you use for your covering, does it get as hot as the iron. I am afraid of melting it with my gun unless it is supposed to be really hot. This will be my first covering job, and its actually a recovering.

A B&D heat gun gets MUCH hotter than a covering heat gun. You can use it, but be careful!

I have used the B&D heat gun, and recently switched to a TH covering heat gun. The covering heat gun is MUCH easier to use. Its not as hot, which makes it easier to shrink the covering where I want it shrunk, and far less likely to burn through.
