Dropped Tx
I have a Futaba 7CAP-fm TX on Channel 57 that got dropped and now it won't turn on. Does anyone know where I might send it to get it repaired? It is not the 2.4.

RE: Dropped Tx
I have had great success with Radio South in Florida. They have a web site if you need an address. Good Luck, Dave

RE: Dropped Tx
Thanks Dave.

RE: Dropped Tx
How would I check to see if it is still under warranty? I have not had it a year yet. Dumb move on my part. It was charging and my wife moved it to a chair and I didn't see the charge cord and I tripped on it. Bang, on the floor it went. Geeze!!! it's only money. Thanks again for the help.

RE: Dropped Tx
Warranties very rarely cover an item being dropped by the user.
|
RE: Dropped Tx
Now Mikel I didn't want to hear that. Just my luck. What's the old saying "if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all"

RE: Dropped Tx
Did the battery compartment open up? The battery has a little plastic connector that slides over a couple of pins. Might as well have a look inside and see if the drop popped the connector off, especially if the battery compartment sprung loose.
|
RE: Dropped Tx
Nope-the battery compartment did not open. Also, I did not take the back off of the unit. I guess I didn't want to void the warranty if it was still good. I probably can buy a new one for the price to send this one in and have it repaired. Looks like they are going for a little over 110 green backs. I need to stay with a high band and all of my RX are high band.

RE: Dropped Tx
If it is a warranty thing then you would need to send it to the Futaba repair station in Illinois. As mentioned I am doubting that they would cover it under warranty, being as you dropped it. I do not think that Radio South does warranty work. As for fee's, if memory serves me correct Radio South has a minium service charge of around $35.00 to look at it and then the cost of parts. I am pretty certain that you can get yours fixed for less than a new one. Just box it up and send it out, keeping in mind that it might take a little longer for repairs as this is the busy time of year for them. Good Luck, Dave

RE: Dropped Tx
Look on the Futaba manufacturer support forum for details and a form if you want to return it to them.
Often in an impact the crystal goes. Cheap fix. |
RE: Dropped Tx
A bad xtal wouldn't keep it from turning on, it would only prevent RF.
I've got to share a repair story even though it isn't RC. My daughter got a new Canon SRL digital. Awsome camera. Her previous camera was a Canon S1-IS, and she gave it to me. Whoppie. THen I found she had droped it and broke the battery cover. I was looking for a part to replace it when the camera developed a case of purple. Everythg was purple. Checking Canon's web site, I saw that there was an extended warranty on some cameras with a bad Cmos or what ever. I called Canon, and the walked me through a factory reset and told me to send it in and ask for my Email. THey sent a me a prepaid mailer to send the camera in for repair. A couple weeks later I got an email saying that the sensor was bad and they would replace it. Another couple weeks and a package shows up from Canon. Way bigger than the one I sent. I opened it to find a Refurbished S5-IS and a note saying they didn't have parts for the S1 anymore and hoped I would be happy with the replacement. Damn straight I was happy. THis is just after I bought a field charger at a local hobby shop that was going out of business. Every thing 75% off. I got the charger home to find it was fried. I took it back and they promptly gave me my money back and told me they didn't know what to do with it. I offered them $5 for it incase I could scrounge some parts. After I got it home. I got to wondering if I could get it repaired. I contacted E-flight and told them my story and they told me to send it in and they would see. Two weeks later a brand new charger showed up in the mail. Warranty coverage. SO, who know if Futaba might stand behind it. Keep you fingers crossed and send it in. Don |

My cat knocked my JR 7202 tx off the table, on to the concrete floor. It also would not turn on and broke one of the control sticks. I sent it back to horizon for repair, they fixed my radio and installed a new battery free of charge. They told me that this type of accident was not covered under warranty but they were nice and fixed it anyway.

RE: Dropped Tx
Hummmm! I should be so lucky. Maybe I could trade my wife in-nah-I would have to pay to much to make the deal. OOOPS hi dear.
|
RE: Dropped Tx
Yeah, you're right, that transmitter will probably be too expensive to fix and it's really a bother to ask a question on the Futaba or the RadioSouth website to see if you might be wrong.
I'll give you $10 plus shipping for it. Do you take PayPal? |
RE: Dropped Tx
Hobby Services (Futaba USA Service Center) is only about 300 miles away. Contact info is on page 3 of your manual.

RE: Dropped Tx
Gee Bruce the only thing you could have added was you RICH YOUNG people. I am a YOUNG 70. I did send it in to the same place. We will see what happens. I really liked that TX even over my DX7.

RE: Dropped Tx
Send it to Futaba Service. I just sent my trans in for a check [just bought it used], they found a couple lose solder joints and replaced the antenna, including the return UPS charges it was $50.00 an some change. I would bet that yours is not that badly damage from such a shor fall, probably lose wire, etc.
Good luck Gary |
