i have a great planes easy fueler valve installed in my new gp p-51...I'm using 15% mean and green fuel with no castor and I'm running a satio 72...now the valve is mounted under the engine on the back firewall with the top of the valve facing down....I'm using a electric pump to fill the tank and i have connected the probe that came with the valve on to the end of my hose...well now to the problem ....when i go to refuel i noticed that i have gas coming out of the carburetor as well as going into the tank...this valve is brand new....i did noticed the first time i used it i didn't see and gas coming into the carb..but i did use the pump to take the fuel out of the tank..... could i have broken a seal of some type using the pump????? thanks for any information

Don't know about that one, but I have been having a problem with the way two engines have been running. After Tuesday night, I have come to the conclusion that of my quick fill valves are leaking air. I flew a lot of flights with no problems and all of a sudden, I am sucking air like crazy. I checked all the lines and no pinholes.

I am really starting to wonder if these valves are worth a darn. I have seen a few posts on them and am going to go back and see what they say, just haven't had time yet.

I had one of the fuel valves in my Cub and it also leaked and was sometimes difficult to use. (partly due to "operator error") I decided to replace it with a fuel dot and just use a hemostat to crimp the line into the carb when I fuel it up. It's not high tech, but it sure works better (for me)....

If there is fuel going to the tank and the carb while filling, there is definitely something wrong with the valve. Fuel should only go in one direction. Your electric pump didn't hurt anything, I use one all the time with my filler valves. I usually twist the filler nozzle into and out of the valve to minimize any tearing of the O-rings. I'm not sure if that helps but I haven't had any problems with mine yet. It seems most people end up having problems with these things sooner or later. If I start to have problems I'll ditch mine and just use a fuel dot.

Both GP and Dubro filler valves will eventually leak fuel and/or suck air. Fuel dots are reliable and simple to install. Search the many threads here on fuel valve fillers and fuel dots, two line and three line tanks............

I have used these valves on many airplanes, and the only one I had fail was the GP brand while still very new. After that I started using the DuBro exclusively and haven't had any problems. I'm sure the GP is as good as the DuBro and I just got a lemon, and in a pinch I'd buy a GP again if I had to.

As suggested by rajul, all will eventually leak, due to wear on the o-rings. The way I look at it, the fueler valve is an expendable convenience, and *should* keep an extra one in my flight box.

Fuel dots are often difficult on cowled installations like your P-51 unless you have two vent lines to the tank or a carb with positive fuel shut off. If you don't mind spending another $12 for a new fuel valve, it is probably the easiest way to go.

One thing I do is give my valves an occasional oiling with light machine oil or after run oil to keep the o-ring slick.

the gp fueler will be ok as long as you do not try to insert the adapter at an angle.. then you start to do damage...... as long as you are at 90 degrees it will be fine and as long as you are gentle it will be fine.. i had a few ***'s when fueling.. but like was said earlier. it was operator error.... if you are getting fuel into the carb check that the lines are correctly installed... very easy to reverse them... i have fueled and defueled thru mine 100's of times and only i mess up sometimes..
