Next plane

I've trained for a while now using a TT trainer, and then to an Avistar which I'm flying the pants off of. I'm looking to build my first plane this fall/winter and was thinking of either a Tower Uproar or Fun 51. What do you guys think, right planes for my first tail dragger/fun fly, or should I go with a Stik or low wing option?

I think I am going to get a Sig 4 star. That is the most widely recommended second plane on here I think. I started a poll question for this subject. Check this. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_77...tm.htm#7760036

The Uproar and Fun 51 are both nice planes, but a bit too "twitchy" for a second plane.

Take a look at the Great Planes Rapture .40 as well as the Sig Four Star, Sig Mid Star, and Goldberg Tiger kits. All of these are excellent second planes and good first kit projects.

Edit: Oops, forgot to mention the Easy Sport .40 kit from Great Planes. That fits in with the above mentioned planes as well.

greg,

here are a couple links to good second planes i had the this plane as my second great flyer = http://www.americanpioneerhobbies.com/speedair.html

and this ive heard is another fun flying plane from others who have it. = http://www.americanpioneerhobbies.co...r_dragger.html

and you cant beat the price since they come with pinned hinges and pilots already installed, and there easy to put together. hope this helps.

Brett, thanks, that's a nice line-up of low wing planes. If I do a low wing it will be a 4-Star, Dolphin, or Calamato. They look cool, but I've seen a lot of high or mid wing planes that also really perform well, like Stiks, Sticks, Uproar, Fun 51, Dazzlers. Just trying to get lots of opinions but the Tower kit prices are a big plus, I could buy 2 kits for the price of a low wing Arf.

kits end up costing more money as they don't include hardware or covering. generally things that are mass produced, like ARFs, cost less to buy complete.

Kits are nice to work on after you've crashed a few ARFs and you've got wheels and fuel tanks sitting around and you need to find something to do with them. :D

Tower Hobbie has the Uproar and Fun 51 kits for $49.99 up from $45. a month ago, but you can usually find some $5-20 off coupons available depending on how much you spend and free shipping if over $150. Usually, I will go in on an order with someone to get the free shipping. The ARF versions are $89.

RE: Next plane

greg,

thanks, but both of those planes/kits are to small for my tastes (48"and 44") and the 51 is a profile so i can see why they are inexspensive. i will stick with the larger planes.

the planes i linked to are both around 60 inch WS and will be able to fly in alot more wind then either of the kits you mention due to size and weight.
