Hows this engine?
 

I came across an ASP .65 four stoke, new in box, for under $50. How would it compare to my 55AX towing around the Decathlon? Not necessarily in need or looking, but if its ana amazing deal and will free up my AX down the road for something else ill get it. My instructor bought out a hobby store going out of business a while back to have stuff for himself and for his flying friends, not really to make$$$. This was in the lot.

Even though the four stroke has more displacement, it will not likley give better performance.

You have got to be kidding me..if you're thinking twice or worried about power range.lol
I'd buy it just becuase of the sound it'll make on my trainer.:D

I guess my idea here was that if it was comparable, $48 would free up a $150 performer from a plane I'm not so crazy about, even if it wasn't going to be used on my next (first pattern) plane.

Putting this engine on my Dolphin would only free up a 46, which I won't help me with my next plane choice, and freeing up the 55 would reduce the performance of my Decathlon, which I definitely don't want to do. Sounds like I should save the $$$ and put it toward something I will really want down the road.

I guess I just really like toys:D

For under $50, I'd jump on it. I owned an ASP/Magnum .52 4-stroke and it was a great little engine. it isn't quite on par with OS or Sairo but still a decent performer.

The .65 is a little small to perform as well as your .55 but it would be ideal for something like a 4-Star or a Cub.

Garfield, I flew my Decathlon 40 with a Magnum 52 4 stroke, turning a 12X6 prop. It was good power, but I found myself at full throttle most of the time, and I don't care for that circumstance. I switched to an SK 50 (2 stroke), same prop, but more power. Your ASP 65 4 stroke is probably a great match up for this plane. Go for it. ;)

You may also want to wait until you learn the ins and outs of the two stroke before you tackle A four stroke.
I would still buy it and leave it in the box, it will be there when you are ready for it and the price is sure right. ;)

For the $ I would buy it. Down the road you may want to buy something like a 40 size cub, where performnce is not the idea just looks and style.
