Friendly People
 

Well I am new to this site, and just wanted to say hello everyone.
Well this past sunday I went to the field not to far from me here in Houston, and
I want to say I met a few people there and they where very friendly and welcome me there.
I hope to get them better since I am a newbie at this, I am hoping to have someone there teach me to fly on the buddy system.
Like I said Thanks guys for being nice and friendly.

Welcome, I have only been at this since last Dec but everyone I meet is just great. All very willing to help and give advise.

What field were you flying at in Houston? I belong to North Houston Sport flyersm a great bunch of guys!!

It is BAYOU CITY FLYERS at 3301 LAWRENCE ST
HOUSTON TX 77084, I hadn't started flying yet, still a rookie, I went there too meet the flyers and
soak up some info and learn as much as I can. I like hands on learning, if you know what I mean.

I had to post my experience with one of the clubs in my area. I am currently stuck on crutches for a while.(bum knee)[&o] I cannot kneel and have quite a time getting all the equipment setup. When I arrive at the field, there is always some guys that help unload and set things up. They even bolt the wing on and set my chair out at the pilots box for me. I've only fueled and started my plane once!! Without those kind souls I would have a hard time indeed. I can't thank those folks enough!!:D

It's amazing the quality of people that this hobby attracts... either that, or all of the jerks are out golfing! :p

im an rc pilot and a "full scale" pilot, and i have found that both sides of aviation are full of very friendly helpful people. dont get me wrong, ive ran into a few jerks, but they are few and far between. i think that cause we all share the same passion, we all naturally get along.

My instructor drives 25 minutes to the field on a weeknight just to train me. He usually doesnt even fly his own plane...

Well, I'm not certain being a member on RCU for 14 months makes you new here, but welcome aboard !!:D The plot can always use new characters !!!

I take it that the bayou city club is close to home ? If not, the Jetero RC club on the north east side, east of lake houston is a very nice facility with several instructors, 50 acres out in sod farm country, and a very nice building with a frig full of cold drinks.

Actually there are nearly 20 clubs in and around houston. So, there should be one very near your home, where ever you live.

And don't miss the giant blow out at Bomber Field ! Its the biggest event around houston. Its Sept. 19-21 in Monaveille, west of houston. It used to be the same weekend as Reno, but I guess enough folks complained about the conflict. reno is the weekend before, now.

And there is a fairly decent aviation museum in galveston beside the airport. Quite a few of the Confederate Air Force, ( or what ever they call themselves these days ), airpanes are based there.

Pretty soon, when the weather cools off a little, the local clubs will be having big bird fly in and airshows. There should be something going on almost every weekend. So check the schedule in the back of the Model Aviation magazine.

Have fun and expect to meet almost everyone in houston.

WELCOME !!!!!!!!!!! I'm also really new to the sport and I've met some of the best people on the PLANET, both on this site and at a local club (read my post on "Worst "First" Ever" about my experience last weekend! Basically, the FIRST time I ever go to a club, meet a whole bunch of new people, the FIRST time I grab the sticks, fly SOMEONE ELSE'S plane, CRASH IT INTO THE TOP OF A PINE TREE!!!!! And they not only offer to get it down, they're fixing it COMPLETELY to "better than before" status AND it's going to be MY PLANE AFTERWARDS!!!!! And I had JUST met these people 3 hours before!

People aren't shooting you a line of hooey about this sport. The people in this sport are far and away the BEST people I've ever met in any situation! I really don't know why it is that way; maybe because everyone can remember the confusion, excitement, curiosity, and all of the crashes/near crashes of their days as a new pilot and they're eager to share what they know and try to keep YOU from doing some of the silly stuff they did.

And I think Bigedmustafa is right too: all the buttheads are out golfing [sm=teeth_smile.gif] (....and that spurs some weird desire in me to buzz golf courses for kicks...... but I've always been a little deviant, and thankfully tempered with enough forethought to know that's actually pretty dangerous :eek: )

In the short time I've been into this sport, I've already developed a real sense of community, an admiration and deep respect for all of the people who help the new guys along, and I've learned that EVERYONE has AT LEAST ONE story where a complete stranger went far-and-above the call of duty being EXTRA good to them. Whether it's helping you prep your plane or even FIND your plane if you wipe out; if there is only ONE other person out there, you can almost bet your bottom dollar, they'll help you out if you have any problems. Just remember to return the favor when you see someone ELSE having trouble. It's a big beautiful group of like minded people who all want 2 things (1) to ALWAYS have fun flying and (2) to become a better pilot and help someone else become a better pilot if they can ;)

Like we say in the south, "They're good people" and that's no lie. I've never encountered anything like it before. It's unique, special, and it makes a WONDERFUL sport even MORE WONDERFUL ! I feel truly blessed to have stumbled into this arena. It's made the depression I was suffering due to unemployment from corporate "downsizing" disappear like water on the sand! It's like nitromethane Prozac :)

Yes I have been reg. for 14 months , but I have not really written anything or join in any conversation on here. I have read a lot to learn on building
my PT-60 and its been a real help. And by all means I don't want to be a rude person, I enjoy this hobby plus my other hobbies. I need to cut back on some of them.
It's getting hard to find time to learn to fly, I have had my PT60 for about 5 or 6 years and now just got it ready to fly. So hopefuly I will find a pilot to train me.
And its great to get to know you guys/gals here in the flying world.
