have to return Easy Glider!
Step 4: Glueing the tail assembly to the fuselage:
As I site down the fuselage I can see that there is a bend in the last 5" at the tail end. The tail assembly will mount crooked to the longitudinal axis. I have not mounted the tail section yet. If I put a straight edge on the fuselage where the tail should mount and follow it to the nose I can see the angle is off by 1.5" at the nose of the plane. I think this is unaceptable? I could attempt to twist the tail when I assemble it but it wont be fitting properly to the fuselage tabs. I could compensate when adjusting the rudder? I wonder what their solution will be? I want a new straight fuselage... back to the LHS in the am. Steve |
RE: have to return Easy Glider!
I'm not sure if this is going to help you in your situation, but I thought I'd throw it out there to "do with it what you will". If the plane is a "balsa" type plane, I remember my father-in-law's answer to this question when I asked him one time what he did about this when it happened ( he was a MAJOR balsa modeller! He's built 20-30 of the most incredible balsa models I've ever seen. "The Spirit of St.Louis" in 22" wingspan is hanging from my son's ceiling ;) ) What he did was use a 10-to-1 mix of windex to water and soak the plane in it for anywhere between 10-20 minutes (for "single strips") or 1-3 hours for parts already assembed and then "test" the wood to see if it was pliable, and then he'd carefully bend it and put it into a preconstructed "jig" (usually a series of c-clamps + wood blocks or leather strips to keep the metal off the wood) and leave it until it dried.
Considering he's not only done aircraft, he's done SUPER intricate work on ships (which have all KINDS of curves in the hull and decks and whatnots), he knows what it takes to re-shape wood to do what he wants it to. Like I said, I don't know if this will help you in your situation or not (you may need a 5 gallon bucket just to get it wet!!!) Most likely this won't help you at all, but JUST IN CASE..... although it sounds like your original game plan is probably the best > revisit the store..... [&o] |
RE: have to return Easy Glider!
This multiplex glider is preassembled foam. the fuselage is made up of a left and right half. Looks like something went wrong in the glueup?
I'm hoping he has another one in the store we can compare to. If its good, Then just swap the fuse and let him deal with the return. If he doesnt have another I hope he takes it back as a return. I know the other LHS has the same plane... Worst case is I have to wait for MFG to send a replacement. If thats the case, it really takes away one of the reasons I try to buy from LHS. I might as well buy online if I have to wait for the product anyway! We'll see in an hour or so.. AM I correct to be concerned about this much missalignment in the tail? Steve |

RE: have to return Easy Glider!
Wrong answer, right results.
When I showed him the crooked tail he said "thats the way they make it, someone else came in and he called the company, its to compensate for the motor" I said I find that hard to believe! I've built many models and the goal is to get everything as straight as you can. when gliding, this setup would have the plane constantly turning left. I asked if he had another box which he did. I'd feel more comfortable if I saw the same thing on another plane. We opened it up and surprise! the tail was straight as an arrow. we swapped fuselages and I was on my way!!! I will not go back to this LHS. While he did the right thing in swapping parts this isnt the 1st time I've smelt the BS there. SO, if he really did have another customer with this problem It would be wise to check this area if you buy a Multiplex easy glider electric... Alls well that ends well! I should be flying this afternoon... Steve |
RE: have to return Easy Glider!
It is truely disapointing to hear that the LHS guy would try to BS his way through in an atemt to avoid a return/exchange[:'(]
